Meet Emeli Sande – The Scottish Aretha Franklin

One year ago this week, Emeli Sandé’s first album entered the charts at number one.  Twelve months on, Our Version Of Events is enjoying its 53rd consecutive week in the Top Ten – a record for a debut bettered only by The Beatles’ Please Please Me in 1963 – and the woman behind it is a household name.

The Scottish singer-songwriter crowned an exceptional year on Wednesday night by winning two Brits – best female and best album – while her debut was the only album to sell a million copies in Britain last year. She performed at the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympic Games, while next month’s UK tour is a complete sell-out. Strangest of all, the 25-year-old managed to achieve all this without exploiting her sexuality or getting embroiled in a celebrity scandal.

An old-fashioned pop star, she has kept her private life to herself.

With Sandé, it is all about the songs, a virtue emphasized by this week’s release of her first live album. Recorded last November, Live At The Royal Albert Hall is a CD and DVD double-pack that reiterates the qualities that have made the singer pop royalty. It features hits such as Heaven and Next To Me, and wraps her soulful, heart-stopping voice in atmospheric strings and seductive rhythms.With intimate, piano-led songs her forte, the centerpieces are the ballads Clown and River, back-to-back tracks that are simultaneously sad and uplifting. On Clown, she admits to being a novice pianist, but her performance is still mesmerizing.

Other highlights include a haunting take on the Cup Final hymn Abide With Me (as sung at the Olympics opening ceremony) and a note-faithful cover of Nina Simone’s I Wish I Knew How It Would Feel To Be Free.

‘From the age of eight, she’s been my inspiration,’ says Emeli.

As live albums go, it isn’t perfect. Emeli has the soulful voice and songwriting abilities of Simone, but she has yet to acquire the stagecraft that is a hallmark of her other great influence, Alicia Keys. While the New Yorker will fall back on her inner showgirl when she plays a big venue, the naturally reserved Sandé can seem overwhelmed by the occasion.

‘Wow, I’m playing the Royal Albert Hall,’ she says. ‘This is my wildest dream come true — and it’s all happened so quickly.’

Her fans, however, react warmly to her girl-next-door charm, especially when she touchingly dedicates songs to her watching mum, dad and sister Lucy. If the tender, reflective nature of Sandé’s material threatens to make this album slightly one-paced, the singer is inspired in her choices of collaborators, and guest appearances by rapper Professor Green (on Read All About It) and singer Labrinth (on Beneath Your Beautiful) ensure that the energy levels soar at the end of the evening.

Beyond her undoubted artistry, though, what has made Sandé such a star?

The thing that sticks out the most about the singer is how down to earth she still is. In an era of TV-created idols, she offers something different:

The daughter of a Zambian father, Joel, who moved to Britain on a scholarship and now teaches engineering, and an English mother, Diane, from Cumbria, she was raised in a small, conservative village in the Aberdeenshire countryside.

From there, she went not to stage school but the University of Glasgow, where she completed a medical degree, specialising in Clinical Neuroscience.
In the final year of her studies, she spent time in hospital wards meeting patients with spinal injuries and schizophrenia. Had she not taken up music, she would now be a qualified junior doctor.

‘My intention was always to become a doctor,’ she said ‘I specialized in neurology, and I found medicine a real challenge. ‘It was something that was going to stretch me, because I wasn’t just stuck in a research laboratory.’

‘I was in a hospital, and I got to see people at their most vulnerable. Ultimately, though, I wanted to try music.’

There is a touch of steel to Sandé, too, along with the strong work ethic that is a prerequisite for any modern pop star.  The singer concedes she was ‘headstrong’ as a child, and, in her teens, she declined a record deal after winning a Radio 1 talent contest, preferring to cut her musical teeth by writing hits for Cheryl Cole and Susan Boyle.

Her approach has won her the admiration of her peers. Jay-Z praised her ‘unique sound’, Rihanna asked her to write a song for her, and Dido, when I interviewed her recently, was quick to acknowledge a singer she sees as a kindred spirit, not least for the fact that Sandé, like Dido.

Even amidst the prying eyes of the paparazzi, she managed to get married to marine biologist Adam Gouraguine in a very private ceremony.

‘I think she’s brilliant,’ Dido told me. ‘It’s voices that resonate with me, and I love hers. She’s the most exciting female artist of the moment. She never gets boring, either, because I don’t know anything about her private life, which is great.’

Sandé herself is already looking ahead, with this live set previewing two songs from her forthcoming second album. The first, Enough, is a big, flowing piano ballad. The second, Pluto, looks more to the Massive Attack-style strings of her debut single Heaven. On the evidence of these, the stunning success of Our Version Of Events is no fluke.

‘You have a duty to be a positive role model, especially when some of your fans are young girls,’ she says. ‘You get 13- and 14-year-olds thinking they have to dress a certain way to get on.

But my inspirations were Aretha Franklin and Nina Simone. With them, the music always came first.’

President Obama plays golf with pro-Golfer Tiger Woods on boys’ weekend…

President Obama played golf with Tiger Woods on Sunday as he took a break from work during President’s Day weekend. The unexpected golf pairing came as the President enjoys a ‘boy’s weekend’ away from his wife and daughters, making his decision to spend the afternoon with one of the world’s most notorious philanderers even more pointed.

Though it would be an intimidating round – undoubtedly for both parties – Mr Obama warmed up on Saturday by playing with Woods’ former coach Butch Harmon. After getting pointers from Harmon, Mr Obama must have been feeling good about his game as he played with the Masters’ Champion and Jim Crane, who owns The Floridian Yacht and Golf Club where they were seen playing.

Golf Digest reporter Tim Rosaforte reported that the Commander-in-Chief reported to the club’s driving range at around 11am as he warmed up for the ‘historic’ round with Woods and Crane.  No photos of the trio have been released and the president’s normal pool reporter was barred from covering the event, but gossip is flying at the country club as members tried their best to get an insight into how the round was going. Michelle Obama and the girls spend Presidents Day weekend at a top ski resort with a team of private instructors…

Michelle Obama and her daughters spent Presidents Day weekend enjoying private lessons with numerous instructors at a top skiing resort in Aspen, Colorado, it has emerged.

The Obama girls, shadowed by security, enjoyed the hospitality of wealthy Democratic donors Jim and Paula Crown – and angered other visitors by shutting airspace so they could land their plane. Their trip came as President Obama golfed with Tiger Woods in Florida – a day out that was kept under wraps from the public and the media despite the taxpayer footing much of the massive bill.

In Aspen, Michelle, Sasha and Malia, as well as a few friends, headed to the slopes for all-day private lessons with numerous pro skiers from the Ski and Snowboard School of Aspen, the New York Post revealed. All-day courses with the school cost between $107 and $200 per person, but the White House said the First Family was picking up the tab.

Marking a month since Barack Obama officially embarked on his second term as President, a selection of candid shots from his inauguration weekend have been released. From Michelle’s new bangs and her stunning inaugural gown to Malia and Sasha’s grown-up looks the intimate photos offer an insight into how the First Family geared up for festivities.

The pictures, some of which have never been seen before, were selected by official White House photographer Pete Souza and uploaded on to Flickr last week. Highlights include a view inside the presidential limousine as Mr Obama and his wife journey through crowds gathered at the inaugural parade in Washington D.C.. The couple are seen laughing in the back seat as they sit side-by-side wrapped up in their winter coats. Another shot captures the President, 51, in a moment of prayer during a special worship service at St. John’s Episcopal Church, which kicked off inauguration day. White House has unveiled new official portrait of Michelle Obama to mark second term as First Lady!

The White House has unveiled a new official portrait of Michelle Obama to mark her second term as First Lady. The photograph, shot on February 12th by White House photographer Chuck Kennedy in the Green Room of the White House, shows her with the new bangs she debuted last month on her 49th birthday.

And unlike the last official photo, in which she proudly bared those toned upper arms she is so famous for, this time she wears a sleeved black-and-navy dress by Reed Krakoff. She has also toned down her jewelry – instead of the double strand of pearls there is a single one. Her barely-seen earrings, wedding and engagement rings are the only other accessories.

Mrs Obama’s make-up has definitely been given an update though – while the last portrait was widely-praised when it was released in February 2009, the pearlescent finish of the lipstick now looks dated. White House immigration bill ‘would allow 11 million illegal immigrants to become legal residents in EIGHT years’!

The White House is circulating a draft immigration bill that would create a new visa for illegal immigrants living in the United States and allow them to become legal permanent residents within eight years, according to a report published online Saturday by USA Today.

President Barack Obama’s bill would create a ‘Lawful Prospective Immigrant’ visa for the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants living in the United States. The bill includes more security funding and requires business owners to adopt a system for verifying the immigration status of new hires within four years, the newspaper said. In response to early criticisms of the leaked proposal, White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough said on Sunday that Obama meant for the draft proposal to be a back-up plan in case the bipartisan immigration teams in Congress are unable to come up with a bill fast enough.

‘We’ve not proposed anything to Capitol Hill yet,’ McDonough said on ABC’s ‘This Week with George Stephanopoulos.‘ ‘We’ve got a bill, we’re doing exactly what the president said we would do last month in Las Vegas, which is we’re preparing. Pictures finally appeared of President Obama on Monday evening as he headed home to Washington after a relaxing golf weekend which was kept heavily under wraps. The President was on the course on Monday for the third and final day of a Florida vacation with departing US Trade Representative Ron Kirk, the president’s Chicago pal Eric Whitaker and White House aide Marvin Nicholson.

The President had enjoyed a round of golf with Tiger Woods on Sunday – a fact that only emerged by chance after media were banned from attending the event. The traveling pool of journalists who follow the President’s every move were reportedly furious after being shut out of his round of golf and not being allowed on to the club grounds. It has long been a White House tradition that pool reporters cover the President’s rounds of golf and even have the opportunity for a few questions on the course.  The President waved after he jogged up the steps of Air Force One at Palm Beach International Airport while a White House aide heaved golf clubs and large bags on board. Tiger Woods reveals President Obama has ‘an amazing touch’ on the golf course following their ‘boys weekend’…

Fresh from his round of golf with President Obama on Sunday, Tiger Woods chose to be complimentary yesterday when asked about the course skills of the most powerful man in the world.

The notorious philanderer and Mr. Obama played out a ‘boy’s weekend’ over the President’s Day weekend at the Floridian Yacht and Golf Club and Woods was quizzed at a press conference after a practice round at the WGC-Accenture Matchplay Championship in Arizona.

‘He’s got amazing touch,’ said Woods. ‘He can certainly chip and putt. If he ever spent — after these four years — spent more time playing the game of golf, I’m sure he could get to where he’s a pretty good stick.,’ said the world’s number two golfer somewhat diplomatically.

Asked if the president and Woods had squared up against each other over 18-holes, the 14-time major winner revealed that Mr. Obama had been his partner in a foursome against U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk and Houston Astros owner Jim Crane.

Cameron bans Obama from bringing Michelle to G8 as he decrees summit will be WIFE free zone!

David Cameron is encouraging Barack Obama to leave his wife Michelle at home when he attends the G8 Summit in the UK this year. British sources say the Prime Minister wants the summit in June to be WAG-free to ensure leaders remain ‘focused’ on issues like tackling tax avoidance, without the distraction of having their wives and girlfriends in tow.

The Obamas welcome back Robin Roberts as she returns to Good Morning America 174 days after she left for life-saving bone marrow transplant!

Robin Roberts has returned to Good Morning America exactly five months after she underwent a bone marrow transplant in her battle against a rare blood disorder. The beloved host was given a raucous welcome by her fellow hosts – and there were even congratulatory messages from the Obamas, Oprah Winfrey, Hillary Clinton and actor Bradley Cooper.

Roberts, who took a break from the show as she fought myelodysplastic syndrome, looked relaxed, healthy and proudly displayed her closely-cropped hair as she returned to the co-host’s chair.

‘Hi, it’s Robin, and I’ve been waiting 174 days to say this: Good morning, America!’ she said. ‘I am so full of gratitude. I share this morning, this day of celebration, with everyone.’

‘I keep pinching myself and I realise this is real,’ she said. ‘This is actually happening, and I don’t have my froggy slippers on, or do I?’

Her return, which had been promoted two weeks ago by ABC, was celebrated by the show’s fans as thousands sent well-wishes to Roberts on social networking sites and brandished signs across the country and outside the studio in Time Square. The Obamas also shared in the celebration, welcoming Roberts back with a video message

First Lady Michelle Obama showed off her dancing moves during her Friday appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Mrs Obama was a crowd favorite on the NBC comedy show and wasn’t afraid to get physical in front of the New York audience.  While in the Big Apple she was also interviewed by Good Morning America host Robin Roberts and health guru Dr Oz, as part of the celebration for the 3 year anniversary of her Let’s Move! campaign to fight childhood obesity.

‘In honor of the first lady’s Let’s Move campaign, and to encourage parents everywhere to get up and get moving with their kids, Jimmy Fallon and Michelle Obama present the Evolution of Mom Dancing,’ the show said in a YouTube clip released on Friday before her appearance aired.

The 32-year-old reality star, who’s due in July, looked elegant in a billowing printed blouse, black leggings and her staple: stiletto boots.

‘On my way to Nigeria! Can’t wait!’ Kardashian tweeted to her 17.3 million followers earlier in the day.

Aston Merrygold enjoys another night out for his 25th birthday in Essex…

Forget a birthday, it’s all about the birthweek as Aston Merrygold enjoyed another night out to celebrate his 25th. The JLS star partied with bandmates Marvin Humes, JB Gill, old friend, Olympic gymnast Louis Smith and some other local Essex faces at The Sugar Hut.

And as an extra special treat, Aston was presented with a birthday cake iced with a picture of himself and a microphone on it. Mick Norcross made sure to keep Aston and his part well lubricated, as well as putting in some face time with the birthday boy at his nightclub. But he wasn’t the only TOWIE star in the venue, with Joey Essex, Billie and Sam Faiers popping in to say hello.

Although the girly reality contingent were in the house – and a source claims that Sam was allegedly kicked out of it too – it was all about the boys with Aston tweeting earlier in the day, ‘Done done and done.. She isn’t known for throwing diva-like tantrums but Kendra Wilkinson could have won a gold medal for her recent hysterics. The former Playboy model was seen losing her cool as she trained in Los Angeles, California, for new American reality show Splash.

The 27-year-old was left fuming as she appeared to be screaming and shouting at her personal diving trainer Greg Louganis on Friday afternoon. The beautiful blonde was irate and furious over something and clearly wanted to make her point clear.

One never knows what to expect from a Marc Jacobs fashion show. Looks like there’s not a club in town big enough to entertain both Chris Brown and Drake. According to TMZ, the two tried to party at the Playhouse Nightclub in Hollywood on Wednesday, but the Take Care singer was turned away because Chris already had a table.

The Don’t Wake Me Up singer was inside celebrating an anniversary party for the clothing brand Popular Demand, and the bouncers knew that Rihanna would be arriving later on. So when Drake showed up at the door around midnight, they respectfully asked him to leave, and he headed off to another bar without incident.

And it appears that Kim Kardashian is offloading some of her other properties. Kris Humphries is allegedly willing to risk his career over his divorce battle with Kim Kardashian. The Brooklyn Nets basketball player’s team is on track to score a place in the 2013 Playoffs, which run from April 20th to June 20th, and he is said to be willing to miss the games in order to face his estranged wife in court on May 6th.

A source close to the 28-year-old athlete, who is on a two-year contract worth $24 million, told gossip website TMZ.com that Kris has already decided he will skip the Playoffs if the trial, which could last two or three days, clashes with a game.

The sports star is keen to have their 72-day marriage annulled on the grounds of fraud, insisting Kim only married him for publicity on her show ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians’, but was advised against the decision by his former attorney Marshall Weller. However, Mr. Waller has since quit the trial and Kris has hired out-of-state lawyer Lee Hutton to help on the case, but will need another Californian representative on board. Their split has been dragging on since October 2011. She was one of the most high profile stars to grace the front rows of New York Fashion Week. But Zoe Saldana was clearly pining for her rescue dog Mugsy, as she rushed to pick him up from his sitter as soon as she touched down in LA on Sunday.

After a hectic few days dashing from show to show, the Star Trek actress looked happy to be back in her home town, dressing down in a baggy grey dress and going completely make-up free. Clearly one of her main priorities, Zoe made a beeline to her dog-sitter after arriving back in town, keen to get her hands on her pet pooch. Smiling as the little fella bounded out of the house, the A-lister then picked him up and carried him all the way to her car while inspecting him.

He gained a disappointing track time during his first stint on the Top Gear test track in 2007. But Lewis Hamilton made sure to show them how it’s done as he returned to the BBC Two show on Sunday night for an attempt at the Star In A Reasonably-Priced Car lap record in the hope of becoming the fastest professional on the circuit.

Smashing fellow Formula One star Sebastian Vettel’s previous record of 1 minute and 44 seconds, the 28-year-old sportsman managed to lap the circuit in a Suzuki Liana in an impressive time of 1 minute and 42 seconds. Hamilton previously appeared on the show back in 2007, but the wet conditions on the day meant he wasn’t happy with his lap time.

After hearing his winning time announced, he said: ‘Wow, holy crap. I’m surprised.’

Prince Jackson lands his first job… as Entertainment Tonight special correspondent!

Having seen what fame did to his father you might expect Prince Jackson to shun the spotlight. But the 16-year-old has followed Michael Jackson into showbusiness with his appointment as a special correspondent for Entertainment Tonight.

The role is certainly a step up from the usual first jobs of delivering papers and washing cars. Prince will talk to celebrities for the show, with his first interview with Oz The Great And Powerful stars James Franco and Zach Braff and director Sam Raimi set to be screened this week.

‘I’m looking to become well-rounded as a producer, director, screenwriter and actor,’ he explained.

The teen told ET: ‘I’ve been raised around stuff like this so it was different being the interviewer instead of the one being interviewed.’

During the interview Prince refers to his late father, when he is complimented on his maturity. ‘That’s what most of my people say,’ he responds. ‘That was all thanks to my dad. He raised me right.’

Chrissy Teigen admits she’s gone overboard on bridal gowns to marry John Legend: ‘I have four wedding dresses!’

Chrissy Teigen has admitted that she has ordered four bridal gowns for her wedding to John Legend. The 27-year-old model, who has yet to choose a venue, says that her inability to prioritize is delaying the ceremony.

‘I have four wedding dresses at this point and no location,’ Ms Teigen told New York Magazine at a launch party last week. ‘They’re not here yet, but they will be,’ she said of the gowns, several of which are from Vera Wang. ‘And it’s going to be really sad. If you need any, let me know.’

The model and her Grammy-winning fiance are the stars of Chrissy Teigen’s Hungry, a new reality show that follows the couple as they choose their wedding menu. But with a lack of venue and date for the ceremony, plans still remain tentative.

‘We were going to get married in Tennessee at a beautiful farm,’ explained the brunette beauty, ‘but we overhauled it.’  She admitted: ‘I can’t ever make up my mind.’

And apparently Mr Legend, 34, is equally bad at making decisions when it comes to the wedding.

Of course, Mossy also counts Mario Testino as a close friend, so she has no shortage of snappers on speed-dial for dazzling portraits. But Rankin has photographed Kate, who is 39 just like Heidi, in iconic poses; and Klum seems to be recreating one of her looks right down to the retro silk shift dress and sultry eye make up.

CNN morning anchor Soledad O’Brien is reportedly leaving the network and Erin Burnett will be replacing her alongside new co-anchor Chris Cuomo.

‘The deal to move Erin to the morning alongside Chris Cuomo is basically done,’ a source told the New York Post. ‘Soledad had been told she’d get a prime-time slot, but that hasn’t yet happened, and now she is telling friends she is likely to leave.’

The source added that O’Brien: ‘doesn’t seem to fit the direction the network is going’ under new CNN chief Jeff Zucker, even though she is ‘talented at producing in-depth, serious pieces of journalism, and is a tough interviewer.’

Zucker has made a number of sweeping changes at the network since he took over, including hiring ABC’s Cuomo and Jake Tapper. Both men found their paths to higher-profile jobs at ABC blocked.

Cuomo, who was news anchor at ‘Good Morning America’ from 2006 to 2009, was passed over for George Stephanopoulos as co-host of that show while Tapper twice didn’t get a shot at the anchor job on ‘This Week,’ first when Stephanopoulos left and then when he returned to the Sunday show. Kim nixes claims she’s quitting family’s reality show: ‘I’m not leaving Keeping Up with the Kardashians… yet!’

Following a recent interview, rumors began swirling that Kim Kardashian would be leaving her reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians after season nine. But the star has thwarted the claims she is exiting – at least for now.

Addressing the reports on her Celebuzz page on Wednesday, Kim admitted she doesn’t know where life will take her, but said she is ‘staying on through at least season 10’.

She wrote: ‘As everyone knows, we are extremely proud of the show and all of us are staying on through at least season 10. The show remains to be my number 1 priority and it’s a big part of my life and I enjoy every moment of it.’

‘It has given me such a rare opportunity to share more of my life with all of you and has brought my family closer to each other. I’m looking forward to the new season and beyond.’

The awards celebrate the best of UK music and on Wednesday night Emeli Sandé and Ben Howard proved to be the cream of the crop, winning two gongs each at the 2013 Brit Awards. The Next To Me singer was named Female Solo Artist and scooped the award for British Album for her disc Our Version of Events, at the glitzy bash held at the 02 arena.

Ben Howard also enjoyed a double celebration at the ceremony picking up awards in the British Breakthrough Act and British Male categories. Emeli won the first award of the evening and was presented with the Female Solo Award by Taylor Swift.

She told the crowd: ‘This feels amazing. This is incredible I am so happy to win this award.’ She added: ‘Thank you to everyone who has allowed me to win, thank you my family.’

Later in the show Emeli spoke of her delight and said the evening ‘a dream’ as she picked up her second award of the evening.

It seems growing up in the spotlight has proved a valuable asset for Prince Jackson in his new line of work. Michael Jackson’s 16-year-old son was cool and collected during an interview with James Franco and Zach Braff despite technical glitches marring his first interview as a special correspondent for Entertainment Tonight.

Sitting opposite the actors and director Sam Raimi, the newly-minted television journalist continued with questions for the trio, who complimented him on his natural ability. Viewers on Tuesday night saw Prince make his debut on the 30-minute celebrity news program, watching as he prepared with mentor Brooke Anderson for his first sit-down with the director and cast of Oz the Great and Powerful.

And on Wednesday his segment finally went to air, with an encouraging group of stars and producers coaching him through it.

‘We’ll be the best interview subjects ever,’ Zach promised as the Q&A got underway.

Their new movie sees them wearing little more than bikinis. So it is perhaps hardly surprising that the stars of Spring Breakers chose such daring dresses for the Paris premiere.

In keeping with the theme of the movie, Ashley Benson, Vanessa Hudgens and Rachel Korine chose to flaunt their cleavage in plunging gowns, while Selena Gomez broke the trend and instead revealed her back. Of all the dresses 23-year-old Ashley’s was perhaps the most revealing. While the embellished black number was a modest floor-length, it featured a cut out section running from neck to breastbone, exposing her cleavage.

The Pretty Little Liars star matched it with suitably gothic dark nail varnish and a knowing smile, while wearing her blonde hair in waves. Vanessa went for a prom dress style peach gown with a full skirt and black rosettes decorating her cleavage. She spends a lot of time in her new film Spring Breakers wearing just her bikini.
And it seems Selena Gomez has become quite accustomed to flashing the flesh as she proved on Tuesday at the German premiere of her film.

The Disney star turned heads wearing a suit with a plunging neckline and nothing beneath it, showing off plenty of skin. Showing she’s a fully-fledged movie-star now the 20-year-old opted for the powerful-looking suit which featured fierce looking gold shoulder pads. The fitted jacket cinched in at her waist showing off her slim figure, while the low-cut aspect of it meant her breasts were on display.

After braving the snow in Berlin and the bitter chill in Paris, it was time for the Spring Breakers cast to warm up in Madrid. And at the Spanish premiere on Thursday, Vanessa Hudgens looked thrilled by the change in climate.

The actress showed off her legs in a glamorous gown which featured a very high split as she walked the red carpet at the Callao Cinema in Madrid. Embellished with silver pieces all over her floor-length and scooped back number, Vanessa teamed it with pointy silver high heels. As she walked over to greet fans at the venue, the brunette was forced to carry the long material in her hand to avoid tripping over and revealed plenty of skin while doing so.

In the film Spring Breakers, they play a gaggle of girls who turn to a life of crime to fund their wild school holiday. So it’s no wonder the stars are so comfortable showing off some skin. Selena Gomez and her co-stars continued on their whirlwind tour of Europe as they walked the pink carpet for the premiere of their film at the Adriano Cinema in Rome on Friday.

The former Disney actress showed off her slim physique in a black jumpsuit with a plunging sheer neckline that left little to be desired. She accented her tuxedo-inspired onesie with gold chain accents along her neckline and hip and sky-high Casedei heels that placed her high above her co-stars. Selena also styled her long brown locks in beachy curls that look like she just stepped out of a real spring break.

Arbitrage movie premiere: Amal Fashanu suffers a wardrobe malfunction as she flashes nipple and too much leg…

She’s known for being the niece of former Wimbledon player-turned-TV presenter John Fashanu. But it looks like Amal Fashanu wants to be known for something else – flashing a little too much skin, as both nipple and a lot of thigh were on show on Wednesday evening.

The 24-year-old suffered a serious wardrobe malfunction as she attended the premiere of Arbitrage, which stars Richard Gere. The aspiring model made sure all eyes were on her, although it was perhaps for the wrong reason in her red leopard print dress. While the dress was full length and featured long sleeves it didn’t do much at all to cover her up. The thigh-high split was more a hip-high split meaning much of her leg was completely on display.

Up Close & Personal With Eurasian Actress Vanessa Hudgens…

During one magical chapter of her childhood, Vanessa Hudgens lived in Anaheim, California — home of the 510-acre Disneyland theme park. On many days, Hudgens, her mother, and her younger sister would wake up, do schoolwork for a few hours and then head to the Happiest Place on Earth, where the family’s season passes became a regular part of their home-schooling curriculum.

“I don’t know if it was very conducive to a good learning style,” she laughs, “but it was fun.”

Who is Vanessa Hudgens?

As it turns out it was time well spent. When Eurasian Hudgens, who is of Filipino and Caucasian American descent, was 15 she was cast as the leading lady in the Disney Channel’s High School Musical. The 2006 TV movie not only jump-started Hudgens’ acting career, but inspired a lucrative multimedia franchise.

“In 10,000 hours, they say you can master anything,” Hudgens deadpans. “10,000 hours in Disneyland and you’re the queen of Disney.”

The break-out role…

During her reign, from 2006 to 2008, Hudgens reprised her role as the sweet, brainy songbird Gabriella Montez in High School Musical 2 and High School Musical 3: Senior Year.

She collected enough tween-centric awards and nominations to fill a Disney-licensed tote bag; dated her on-screen love interest and frequent duet partner, Zac Efron, in a highly publicized romance; recorded two studio albums–the gold-certified solo pop record V, and its follow-up, Identified; and zigzagged across the continent for a High School Musical concert tour.According to Forbes, she became one of Hollywood’s top-earning young stars, alongside Daniel Radcliffe and the Olsen twins. But these years weren’t all shopping mall tours and generous Mickey Mouse paychecks. In 2007 nude photographs the actress had taken ended up on the Internet.

“That was just a really shitty situation that sucked,” Hudgens tells me over breakfast at Kings Road Cafe in Studio City, her mood deflating for the first and only time in the two hours that we spend together. “That was by far the worst moment of my career.”

But perhaps those photos were a blessing in disguise, signaling to the world that she was not just the one-dimensional squeaky-clean face on the HSM collectible lunch boxes.

She was a typical 18-year-old girl with a camera phone and a sexual appetite. Hudgens manned up and took responsibility for the pictures, apologizing to her fans. (Disney stood by her throughout the ordeal, simply admonishing the actress with an afterschool special-worthy message: “We hope she’s learned a valuable lesson.”)

Maturity and learning from the previous mistake…

Five years later, Hudgens is about to embark on the most crucial year of her career yet — one which could cement her as a wide-ranging dramatic actress. After supporting roles in projects like Zack Snyder’s fantasy thriller Sucker Punch and the sci-fi adventure Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, Hudgens will plumb markedly darker depths in her next three movies — all scheduled for release in 2013.

If the first of these films — Harmony Korine‘s Spring Breakers, out March 15th — is any indication, the 24-year-old is headed into legitimate adult acting territory — a leap that few Disney stars have managed to land. Korine is the unconventional filmmaker — who shocked audiences and no doubt many parents, with his 1995 breakout film Kids — from whom the idea for the wickedly original Spring Breakers sprung.

The cra-mazing crime comedy stars Hudgens as one of four bored best friends who bust out of their small-town college and rob a restaurant to finance their spring break. After a raucous few days, the bikini-clad quartet is arrested, only to be bailed out by a corn-rowed rapper/gangster named Alien (James Franco), who incorporates them into his Florida crime scheme.

After making twisted, experimental films like, Gummo and julien donkey-boy, Korine returns to the same gritty world of unsupervised teenagers that he explored in Kids. But he tops himself in Spring Breakers, showing uncensored displays of debauchery that would make even the hardest-partying frat boy blush.

Spring Breakers and the unveiling of Vanessa’s adult acting career…

In other words, it’s a father’s — and a certain corporate mouse’s — worst nightmare. Ironically, though, it was Hudgens’ father, a retired firefighter, who flagged Spring Breakers as a script worth reading.

“He loved Kids so he was really excited for the project,” she says, then quickly adds, laughing, “He didn’t read the script, but when he saw that Harmony’s name was attached to it he said, ‘That’s going to be a really interesting project.'”

Asked what she considers the key to making the tough transition from Disney star to grown-up actress, she says,

“It’s always been hard for actors to cross that bridge but honestly, you have to hold out and do what you think is right for yourself,” she says, adding, “But I also think it is about finding someone who truly believes in you. Harmony took a really big jump in hiring me and [co-stars] Selena [Gomez] and [ABC Family actress] Ashley [Benson].”

Although Hudgens seems to think Korine gambled on her, the filmmaker says that he wrote the female roles with both Hudgens and Gomez in mind. In part because he loved the idea of incorporating actresses whom the audience “is not used to seeing in this way.”

(“This way” meaning that the girls writhe suggestively over each other, wield shotguns, take bong rips and snort coke off other spring breakers’ stomachs.) Korine even suggests that it was Hudgens who took a chance on him.

“From the very beginning, I’d say, ‘This isn’t going to be like anything else you’ve done before. We’re going to push it. So I need you to be bold.'”

Hudgens heeded his advice. And in what Korine considers her most impressive scene — one in which she and Benson shove a gun in Franco’s mouth — the actress not only holds her own against her Oscar-nominated co-star, Franco, but with the help of Benson, overpowers him with the kind of unexpectedly aggressive and manipulative temperament you might see in a David Lynch villain.

“The scene wasn’t even written like that,” Korine says. “She took it to this other place where she kind of tried to emasculate him and then he ends up strangely turned on by it.”

The actress refers to the scene as the one in which she and Benson “make James our bitch” and explains that it was not difficult to get into the Franco-taming mindset.

“You sit there. You’re smoking your fake blunts. You just do it.”

It was Franco, her avant-garde co-star, who attracted her to the unlikely project. (“I saw that James was already attached and I am his biggest fan. I thought, ‘I need to be in this movie.'”).

But even though they shared intimate scenes together, including a three-way love sequence in a swimming pool, Hudgens is not any more familiar with the enigmatic actor now than she was when she first read the script.

“I still don’t know him,” Hudgens says in wonderment. “I have no idea who James Franco is. I know who Alien is. He’s that into method acting. He comes on set as his character. In between scenes, he is still his character.”

“When I first saw him, I was speechless because he just completely transformed himself. The way he talked, with that accent… Everything he does is so organic.”

She did, however, bond with her co-stars Benson, Gomez and Rachel Korine (Harmony’s wife) over crushed-up vitamin B, which the actresses snorted on camera in lieu of cocaine. The foursome quickly realized that the vitamin’s effect was not unlike that of the drug it was simulating.

“We would run around set like mad men, and people would wonder, ‘Did you switch that out with anything?”’

Playing a prostitute in ‘Frozen Ground’…

Although her acting career began rather innocently — when she played Mary in the nativity story at age three — Hudgens has always yearned to test her dramatic limits. She’ll follow Spring Breakers with the thriller Frozen Ground, in which she plays a drug-addicted prostitute.

“Ever since I was young, I wanted to play really heavy and intense roles and really push myself in a dramatic direction. So I was like, ‘A prostitute! I can play a prostitute! This is going to be exciting.'”

The role that demanded the most transformation, however, is the wayward teenager she plays in the upcoming Gimme Shelter. For the survivalist drama, which is based on a true story and co-stars Rosario Dawson, Hudgens gained 15 pounds, chopped off her hair, wore three fake piercings and prepared by spending two weeks inside several covenant shelters for pregnant teens.

She describes the film as “my Monster,” and says she was so unrecognizable, even to herself in the mirror, that it took her time to regain her confidence and sense of self.

“It’s nice to be girly!” she exclaims. “I need my nails and my hair.”

Dealing with paparazzi…

Exiting the restaurant to head out on a hike, the actress protectively warns, “There are a lot of paparazzi outside, just so you know. So don’t get freaked out and scared.”

Indeed, a swath of photographers lie in wait, and trail us to a nearby park. They document her paying the parking meter, and station themselves at the bottom of the hill to await her return.

Pulling a basketball cap far down on her face, Hudgens whispers: “I’m always afraid that when I’m wearing a hat, I’m just going to run into a pole or something.”

A clumsy misstep might be the most exciting thing these paparazzi could catch her doing these days.

The boyfriend: Austin Butler…

She spends most of her free time decorating her house (she just finished a Moroccan-themed room) and watching Girls and reruns of The Office with her boyfriend, Austin Butler, the handsome male lead in The Carrie Diaries.The couple has been together for a year and a half but they’re not quite ready for the next step — a puppy. After cooing at several passing dogs, Hudgens laments the fact that she can’t commit to canine ownership — even if she was a successful surrogate to her sister’s toy poodle, Moonshadow.

“I took her with me to shoot a movie once. After that, I realized it’s a lot of work, and she was kind of bitchy. I’m always traveling, so it’s hard.”

As we round a bend and overlook Los Angeles on an unexpectedly clear day, our conversation returns to Disneyland. The actress still adores her frequent childhood destination, and after a recent visit to the park’s legendarily private Club 33 — the only place in the park that serves alcohol — Hudgens has a new appreciation for her former home away from home.

“There’s nothing more fun than being drunk at Disneyland,” she giggles. Vanessa Hudgens has officially left the theme park.

The Coveteur’s Oroton: Designer Rachel Roy

Designer Rachel Roy’s home was a cabinet of curiosities: A vintage scalloped-edged screen in the softest of greens, a meticulously organized collection of National Geographic’s (some dating back to the 1930’s) and a host of Indian deities and dream catchers that turned up in the most unlikeliest of places.

It was these treasures that greeted us when we arrived at Roy’s home (along with her beyond cute puppy).

While Roy may live among the clouds with her two daughters in tow, her home and style is heavily rooted in historic reminders, which keep her grounded.

Her collection of colorful Indian saris, National Geographic’s (“it started with my family’s love of collecting them, my grandfather used to receive them in his State Department office”) are faithful symbols of her past. And though her Manolo collection could easily rival that of Carrie Bradshaw’s, Roy’s quick to credit her humble beginnings.

“Manolo’s were my first pair of designer shoes,” she told us. “I used to save up and wait until they went on sale. I would make friends with all the sales people and they would call and let me know when a sale broke. They were one of my favorite investment pieces and still are to this day.”

From every cataloged art tome that Roy uses as inspiration and research to the cherished pieces found in her jewelry box – each item tells a story of Roy’s past, present and future.

“The pieces I choose always have a deeper meaning and story behind them. My collaboration with Deepak Chopra really reflects that: we did a sword body chain that has ‘Keep the Stillness Inside of You’ engraved on it and when I wear it, it reminds me to just that.”

With a killer soundtrack playing in the background – Rhianna Radio, F.Y.I. – Roy took centre stage, captivating us all with her effortless glow and presence, while Jake snapped away feverishly.

My collaboration with Deepak Chopra really reflects that: we did a sword body chain that has “Keep the Stillness Inside of You” engraved on it and when I wear it, it reminds me to just that. 

“I think I got it,” he said… just minutes later. This clearly wasn’t her (or his!) first rodeo.

I’m not a huge diamond girl; I like edgy statement pieces with interesting materials. Some of my favorites pieces are by strong women who I admire for not only their designs but also how they live and incorporate their lives in their work.

Sexual Abuse in Hollywood: The Thandie Newton Story…

Thandie Newton has told how she was abused as a teenage actress on a casting couch. The 40-year-old British star said she was still scarred by a ‘horrific’ incident involving an unnamed male director when she was 18 and looking for her ‘big break’.

Miss Newton, now a mother of two and married to the film producer Oliver Parker, said she later found out the director involved had shown a video of her ordeal to others in showbusiness.

The Cambridge-educated actress, who has starred in films including Crash and Mission: Impossible II, has chosen to speak out about her abuse as part of an international campaign to end violence against women, One Billion Rising – the number who have been raped, beaten or abused.

Speaking to CNN International journalist Max Foster, she said:

‘When I was a 16 year old fresh from boarding school going out in, you know the casting couch, I was definitely objectified to an extreme. ‘The way I was made to feel. The way I was exploited and the kind of role and the kinds of things I was expected to do in auditions.’

Foster asked: ‘So you were abused as a 16-year-old?’ Miss Newton replied: ‘Yes.’

She goes on to explain, however, that at the time she didn’t know how to react because it was conducted in what she describes as a ‘professional environment’.

Referring to the incident that happened when she was 18, she continued: ‘It was a screen test. There were two other people in the room – the director and the casting director, who was a woman.’

‘The director asked me to sit with my legs apart – the camera was positioned where it could see up my skirt – to put my leg over the arm of the chair. Before I started my dialogue, [I was told to] think about the character I was supposed to be having the dialogue with and how it felt to be made love to by this person.’

She was confused because it was a ‘professional environment’: ‘I was thinking “this is so strange, why would I need to do that?”’ she said. ‘But this is the director, there is the casting director, [it] must be normal.’

‘I’m 18 years old, you know, and I’m thinking this is, obviously… I was in a protected… there were boundaries.’

Three years later, she discovered the video was being shown by the director to other showbusiness figures.

‘It turned out the director… used to show that video late at night to interested parties at his house – a video of me touching myself with a camera up my skirt,’ she said.

Miss Newton declined to name the director or say if she knew whether he was still in the business. Now married to producer Oliver Parker, she said the coupl were accosted by a drunken British producer at a party in Cannes several years later who boasted of having been shown a video of her ordeal.

The actress was born in London to a Zimbabwean health care worker and her British husband and grew up in Cornwall. Her name means ‘beloved’ in Zulu. She married English writer and director Oliver Parker in 1998. The couple have two daughters: Ripley, 12, and eight-year-old Nico.

Shredded pork and gooey triple-cream cheese fill a tomato-garlic-and-olive-oil-rubbed ciabatta roll in Bin No. 18’s loose interpretation of the traditional Cuban sandwich. Although it’s served with a fig-and-port-wine reduction, customers usually skip the accompaniment and reach for the hot sauce Sriracha.

Fried Chicken Sandwich – Bakesale Betty, Oakland, CA

These delicious sandwiches, filled with crispy buttermilk-soaked, cayenne pepper-spiced fried chicken, sell out fast. Each of Bakesale Betty’s two Bay Area locations is only open for three hours a day–even less if there aren’t enough sweet torpedo rolls to keep making sandwiches.

Smoked Meat – Mile End, Brooklyn 

To create smoked meat–NYC pastrami’s fattier, spicier Canadian cousin–for the sandwiches at his Montreal-style Jewish deli in Boerum Hill, chef-owner Noah Bernamoff cures Pat LaFrieda-sourced, prime-Angus-certified beef brisket in a dry rub of salt, black pepper, spices and garlic before oak-smoking and steaming the meat for several hours.

Reuben – Zingerman’s Ann Arbor, MI

Oprah Winfrey is a noted fan of this grocery-store-turned-Jewish-deli’s famed Reuben–and with good reason. The sandwiches are made with locally sourced corned beef, Emmentaler Swiss cheese, house-made Russian dressing and house-made rye bread. Zingerman’s shop also offers mail-order sandwich kits for out-of-state Reuben cravings.

Endometriosis: Hollywood Mom Padma Lakshmi’s Story

It happened like clockwork, every month, for decades.  The pain would leave Padma Lakshmi ‘balled up in bed’ for days at a time.  There were cramps, bloating, nausea and shock-like sensations running along the length of her legs.

And once the agony had abated, she suffered crushing fatigue and mood swings that affected every area of her life.

What is endometriosis?

Endometriosis is a female health disorder that occurs when cells from the lining of the womb (uterus) grow in other areas of the body. This can lead to pain, irregular bleeding, and problems getting pregnant (infertility).

Every month, a woman’s ovaries produce hormones that tell the cells lining the uterus (womb) to swell and get thicker. The body removes these extra cells from the womb lining (endometrium) when you get your period.

If these cells (called endometrial cells) implant and grow outside the uterus, endometriosis results. The growths are called endometrial tissue implants. Women with endometriosis typically have tissue implants on the ovaries, bowel, rectum, bladder, and on the lining of the pelvic area. They can occur in other areas of the body, too.

Unlike the endometrial cells found in the uterus, the tissue implants outside the uterus stay in place when you get your period. They sometimes bleed a little bit. They grow again when you get your next period. This ongoing process leads to pain and other symptoms of endometriosis.

Why does this happen?
The most commonly accepted theory suggests that during menstruation, pockets of endometrium travel up the fallopian tubes into the pelvis and are deposited, rather than passing out of the body. These deposits are affected by the female hormones around the time of menstruation. Endometriosis can also cause what are known as adhesions, which stick organs such as the bowel to the womb, further adding to pain.

Who does it affect and why?
Endometriosis occurs in women of reproductive age, and is more common in those with a relative who suffers. It is an oestrogen-driven condition so is more common in women who have had a longer exposure to the hormone – for example, starting periods at a young age makes endometriosis more likely.

So it’s not just bad period pains, then?
The condition is characterised by pelvic pain. Specifically, women get severe prolonged period pain starting in their late 20s. Other typical pain for the condition occurs during intercourse, at the time of ovulation or before a period affecting the lower abdomen.

The second important sign of endometriosis is infertility, and often it is when trying to conceive that a woman is first diagnosed. Other less common signs are pain associated with bowel and bladder movements, irregular bleeding and fatigue.

Why are so few women diagnosed?
If a woman’s period pains are relatively mild, neither she nor the doctor would be looking further for a cause. Diagnosis can only be made during a surgical procedure called laparoscopy: a camera is inserted through a small incision into the abdomen so the errant tissue can be seen. Obviously this is not risk-free, so is only suggested when symptoms are severe.

Can endometriosis be cured?
Sadly, no. But the condition can be prevented from interfering with life with the help of painkillers or hormonal treatments. Surgery can sometimes be used to improve symptoms and fertility.

Despite these debilitating symptoms, the model-turned-TV-chef came to believe it was just part of life, as doctors dismissed her ‘women’s problems’. 

Embarrassed that people would think she was exaggerating, she admitted: ‘I thought I was just being a wimp.’

The 42-year-old, once married to celebrated author Salman Rushdie, says today: ‘I was told that some women get menstrual cramps badly and some don’t and it was normal for me because my mother had them. I saw her suffer the way I came to suffer.’

Padma’s ordeal began when she reached adolescence and she needed hospital treatment on more than one occasion. But it wasn’t until the age of 36, following a visit to accident and emergency with heavy bleeding outside of her normal cycle, that she was finally given a diagnosis: endometriosis.

The condition, in which cells that normally line the womb grow outside it (usually in the abdomen), is thought to affect two million British women.  Padma’s case was so advanced by the time it was spotted that specialists told her she would be unlikely ever to have children – even with the help of IVF.

So it was a shock, to say the least, when she discovered that she was pregnant after a brief relationship with Adam Dell, brother of computer firm founder Michael, in 2010. Even her doctor described the conception as ‘nothing short of a medical miracle’.

Her victory over endometriosis…

Today, Padma is a fiercely proud and protective mother to Krishna, who celebrates her third birthday next week.

‘It ended up happening accidentally,’ she says, hoping her story will inspire others facing infertility caused by endometriosis. ‘I’d spent most of my life trying not to get pregnant and it was only after stopping taking birth control – because I was told that I couldn’t conceive – that it happened at all.’

Teasingly, Padma says she would like more children, although she admits her age and history make it unlikely.

‘I’ve always wanted to be a mother, but I never knew it would be so much fun and I’d enjoy it so immensely. My daughter is such great company. I would love to have another child or two.’

It is thought up to ten per cent of women suffer some form of endometriosis!

Like Padma, many are simply told they have severe menstrual cramps. She says: ‘Ever since my teens, I was bedridden for two or three days each month and had to take prescription painkillers. I missed school, I missed work, I missed family functions.’

‘If I had been diagnosed at 15, 20, or even 30, my life would have been different. That would have been four or five days every month that I wouldn’t have been incapacitated, that I wouldn’t have been tired, that I wouldn’t have been nauseous and cranky.’

Padma, who co-founded The Endometriosis Foundation of America (EFA) to encourage women to look out for the symptoms of the illness, continues: ‘I was galvanised by what I went through. Chronic pain is a terrible thing. It impedes your ability to make rational decisions. It alters your ability to handle other stresses in life.’

‘Endometriosis affects every aspect of a woman’s life. It is woven into the very fabric of her life and it develops as her womanhood develops through her adolescence and early years. It becomes part and parcel of a woman’s opinion of her own body, of her femininity, the relationship she has with herself and her sexuality. It affects her intimate relationships, her platonic relationships and her business relationships.’

Padma had surgery in 2001 to remove two ovarian cysts and was rushed to hospital when she was 34, suffering pain and bleeding that she now knows was endometriosis-related. But at the time the condition still wasn’t diagnosed.

‘I tried everything to help, from teas to evening primrose oil, from over-the-counter pain medication to acupuncture. The pain was debilitating, but more than that it was incredibly frustrating that no one was able to tell me what was wrong,’ she adds.

‘It never feels good to have someone tell you that you’re crazy, or you’re making things up. It hurt me physically but also emotionally to live with this pain. I didn’t understand why I couldn’t just take an over-the-counter painkiller and feel better like everyone else.’

Eartha Kitt: Femme Fatale

Kitt was once referred to as “the most exciting woman in the world” by Orson Welles. From her vast singing and acting career and for being outspoken in the world of politics and publicly ostracized for her anti-war remarks that derailed her career, Kitt’s life was definitely one of intrigue.

Now she’s being immortalized via a comic book. “Eartha Kitt: Femme Fatale“, written by New York Times Bestselling Author Marc Shapiro, who also penned the Julie Newmar series,  was released last week.  ”This series has been have been so much fun to do,” said Shapiro. “And it is an homage to the kinds of stories that first appeared in the mid-60′s”.

Meet Karruche Tran – Blasian Stylist & Aspiring Model…

Meet 25 year-old Karrueche Tran, a Blasian model of Vietnamese and African descent. Karreuche is very exotic looking, as she is of both Vietnamese and African descent. She has posed for brands, such as LoveSicc, and allegedly refuses to do nudes. S

he is most famous for dating the singer Chris Brown from 2010-2012, and she was his first serious girlfriend since the stormy demise of the performer’s relationship with singer, Rihanna.

Karrueche has many quotes tattooed all over her body, and according to her Tumblr, she very much enjoys food. Out of her photo-shoot-fresh high-waist shorts and tiny red bikini top, she comes clean about her thorny relationship status.

“I feel like, more than anything, girls can relate to me, regardless of if what they have to say is negative or not,” she explains. “Because the situation is so messy.”

Despite being snared in a love triangle that rivals Brangelina’s, third-wheeling with music’s controversial lovers has afforded Karrueche an op to launch a clothing line, The Kill, with the man responsible for her fame. After meeting Chris through a styling gig two years ago, while he was still warring with the media over his 2009 assault on Rihanna, the ex–personal assistant kept her bond with R&B’s bad boy platonic.

A crushing public breakup in October 2012 (during which Chris dropped an inebriated confessional admitting his love for both Rih and Kae) has made her the odd woman out, even as she and Breezy serve as strange bedfellows in a partnership that places much of the creative control in her well-manicured hands.

For her part, Karrueche assures The Kill will satisfy demand once on racks: “Our clothes are all black and white. I don’t know any other line that’s doing that,” she notes.

Though pushed back from its 12/12/12 launch date, the line has snagged prime pixel-space on style blogs, thanks to Breezy, Christina Milian and Bun B sporting Kill headgear in public. The moniker for the unisex street-wear-meets-high-fashion threads is itself an attention-grabber.

“When people first think of the name, they think violence, guns, blood and being very aggressive, but it’s not,” she says, citing La Roux’s hit “In for the Kill” as inspiration.

“I liked it because the name stood out. I can’t say the clothes are for one type of person.” What about a person named Rihanna? She laughs nervously before unleashing an abrupt, “I don’t know.”

While her subliminal Twitter feuds with Rih soothe the drama-hungry, Karrueche has her own e-groupies (272,000-plus Twitter followers; more than 400,000 on Instagram) who both praise and bait her.

“I never respond to the haters. There’s no point because at the end of the day, nobody knows me,” says the newfound Insta-fashionista.

“It’s honestly weird, because I was brought into this whole ‘being known’ thing. I was never looking for fame. Seeing myself on blogs sometimes, it’s like, ‘Chris isn’t with me. Why are you following me?’”

Now accustomed to the flashes, Karrueche has upgraded her paparazzi’d garbs from dressing in mama’s tights as a tot to loose tees and Jordans as a lady. The upside of an impromptu entourage is that she’s always picture-perfect. As the Chrianna reality show plays out, her relations with Chris remain blurry at best (snapshots of her and the superstar linger on her Instagram).

But she’s willingly hanging on by a thread. “He’ll always be in my life because we have a line together,” she states.

The prospect of a three-way chat with Rih, that’s a little more unlikely. “It would take me to somewhere I wouldn’t want to go,” says Karrueche, still oddly cordial. “Whatever it is will never be understood, even from Chris and Rihanna.”
