‘They’re starting to seriously worry’: Concern growing about low turnout at Obama inauguration!

Crowds may have flocked to the National Mall to see President Obama make history in 2009, but the team behind the president’s 2013 inauguration bash later this month are bracing themselves for a ton of empty seats.

The ceremony that Washington will stage in a few weeks won’t be the historic affair it was in 2009, when nearly 2 million people flocked to the Capitol to watch Obama take the oath of office. This time, District of Columbia officials expect between 600,000 and 800,000 people for Obama’s public swearing-in on the steps of the Capitol on Monday, January 21.

Two weeks before the big day, plenty of hotel rooms still haven’t been booked. Four years ago, some hotels sold out months in advance. There will be just two official inaugural balls this year, both at the Washington Convention Center, rather than 10 official balls at multiple locations around town. The pair of celebrations are the lowest number since 1953, according to the New York Post.

A political insider told the paper: ‘Some on the presidential inaugural committee are starting to seriously worry.’

Obama says ‘aloha’ to vacation as first family arrives back in Washington!

President Barack Obama has returned to Washington after a winter vacation in Hawaii that was interrupted by the ‘fiscal cliff’ crisis. Obama arrived at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland on Sunday morning after an overnight flight as Sasha and Malia return to school tomorrow.

The president’s annual end-of-year visit to his native state was disrupted just after Christmas when he was forced to return to the capital to help broker a solution on a plan to avert a combination of tax increases and spending cuts that could have plunged the economy back into recession.

He returned to Hawaii on New Year‘s Day. One of the first things he did after touching down in the Aloha state was to indulge in his favorite treat of lemon-lime and cherry flavored shaved ice. The return trip to his native Hawaii adds an estimated $3 million the President’s air travel tab – which will total more than $7 million by the time the First Family returns to the White House later this month. White House BANS paparazzi images of Sasha and Malia Obama on Hawaiian beach!!!

Paparazzi shots of Malia and Sasha Obama have been quashed by the White House after a photographer reportedly stumbled across the girls on a public beach in Hawaii. The images of the President’s daughters were taken last week while a paparazzo was actually waiting for singer Jessica Simpson to leave her vacation home.

Secret service agents, who were accompanying the girls on their walk, immediately approached the photographer and asked for identification. They allowed the man to keep his camera but gave him a stern warning to stop photographing the first daughters. However when the paparazzo later sold the images to picture agencies, he was slapped with a warning letter from the White House telling him to stop their release.

A source told Celebuzz that the White House sent the photographer an official letter stating that ‘Sasha and Malia’s privacy should be maintained as they were on a private holiday… and that other media had been respecting these requirements’. Visit Celebuzz to continue reading…

President Obama to be sworn into office using two Bibles – one used by Martin Luther King as well as Lincoln Bible…

President Obama is putting a symbolic twist on a time-honored tradition, taking the oath of office for his second term with his hand placed not on a single Bible, but two – one owned by Martin Luther King Jr. and one by Abraham Lincoln.

The inclusion of King’s Bible is particularly significant since the inauguration comes on Jan. 21, the federal holiday in honor of the civil rights leader, who delivered his ‘I Have a Dream’ speech 50 years ago at the Lincoln Memorial.

Obama will be facing the memorial as he takes the oath. King’s Bible, which his children say he used early in his career as a preacher, has never been part of a presidential inauguration before. Though there is no constitutional requirement for the use of a Bible while taking the oath, George Washington began the tradition with a Bible hastily grabbed from St. John’s Masonic Lodge No. 1 for his swearing-in on April 30, 1789, in New York. Beyonce set to perform National Anthem at President Obama‘s Inauguration

Her performance of the soulful classic At Last was one of the highlights of President Barack Obama‘s first Inauguration. Now Beyonce will once again welcome the Commander In Chief into the Oval office for his second term. The 31-year-old singer has been chosen to sing the National Anthem at the prestigious event on January 21, it was announced on Wednesday.

A vocal supporter of the President, the singer has been chosen to perform along with Kelly Clarkson who will sing ‘My Country ‘Tis Of Thee’ and James Taylor who will be singing ‘America The Beautiful’ on the West Front of the US Capitol in Washington, D.C, the Presidential Inaugural Committee revealed.

Obama nominates ‘anti-Israel’ Chuck Hagel as Pentagon chief!

President Barack Obama today nominated Chuck Hagel as Pentagon chief, daring Republicans to block a decorated Vietnam veteran who ‘bears the scars and the shrapnel of battles he fought in our name’. The nomination will trigger a fresh battle  where a number of Democrats are openly skeptical about the former Republican senator following his comments about ‘the Jewish lobby’ and opposition to ‘an openly, aggressively gay’ nominee as ambassador to Luxembourg.

Obama’s choice of the former two-term senator for Nebraska, revealed by congressional Democratic aides on Sunday, is likely to set up a gruelling confirmation fight in the Senate over whether Hagel supports key U.S. ally Israel after he previously called for negotiations with the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas.

The president described him as ‘the leader our troops deserve’, pointing out that he would be the first former enlisted soldier to be U.S. Defence Secretary.

Obama said pointedly: ‘I hope that the Senate will act on these confirmations promptly. When it comes to national security, we don’t like to leave a lot of gaps between the time that one set of leaders transitions out and another transitions in. Obama nominates mastermind of controversial drone strike program as next CIA director!

President Obama today nominated the man who masterminded the expansion of the hugely controversial drone program as the new director of the Central Intelligence Agency. John Brennan, 57, the current head of counter-terrorism, has also provoked ire on the Left because of his connection during the Bush administration, when he was a senior CIA officer, to ‘Enhanced Interrogation Techniques‘ such as water-boarding, which many regard as torture.

Despite past controversies, the president today praised him as one of the nation’s most skilled and respected intelligence professionals while announcing his nomination.

‘In John Brennan, the men and women of the CIA will have the leadership of one of our nation’s most skilled and respected intelligence professionals,’ Obama said at the White House.

Alluding to the drone strike program, Obama said: ‘Think about the results. More al-Qaeda leaders and commanders have been removed from the battlefield than at any time since 9/11. He added: ‘John is legendary even in the White House for working hard,” Obama said. “He is one of the hardest working public servants I have ever seen.’

Obama jokes Jack Lew’s loopy signature could ‘debase our currency’ as he makes him official pick for Treasury Secretary…

President Barack Obama today formally nominated his chief of staff Jacob ‘Jack’ Lew as Treasury Secretary and joked that he had considered abandoning the nomination after learning of his illegible signature. The president was responding to criticism of Lew’s scrawl which has been compared to a spring or a curly French fry – and how if it is not changed could become an international embarrassment as the Treasury Secretary’s signature always graces the dollar bill.

‘Jack assures me that he is going to work to make at least one letter legible in order not to debase our currency should he be confirmed as secretary of the Treasury,’ Obama said, naming Lew as the man he wants to succeed Timothy Geithner.

Rupert Murdoch goes to war with environmentalists on Twitter as he claims fossil fuels ‘are making the world greener’…

Rupert Murdoch has taken to Twitter to attack environmentalists claiming that rising levels of carbon dioxide from fossil fuels have been good for the planet. The media mogul based his statements on an article which reported that 30 years of satellite images have shown that the Earth is actually getting greener.

Murdoch, a frequent and outspoken critic of renewable energy, tweeted today: ‘World growing greener with increased carbon. Thirty years of satellite evidence. Forests growing faster and thicker.’

He then referenced an article by Matt Ridley in the Wall Street Journal on January 5.  Earlier in the day, the tycoon had posted: ‘Why not switch from useless renewable energy investments to real job creating infrastructure projects. Many great possibilities waiting.’

Rapper Tyga talks love, gambling and career…

Biracial rapper Tyga promoted his “187” single featuring Rick Ross on Big Boy neighborhood recently and revealed that there’s meaning behind the song title (e.g. he’s murdering the game).

He also said he hopes to work with Chris Brown on a new mixtape at some point: “Whenever we stop driving Lambos and posting pictures on Instagram, maybe we could finish it.”

He talked about his love for his girlfriend Blac Chyna with whom he recently had a baby boy. When asked who said “I love you” first or if sings songs to her, he said he isn’t that type of dude.

He did speak on what they enjoy doing in their free time: “We got a real gangsta relationship. Ya’ll not gonna see us doing no crazy, corny stuff. We go to the strip club together, do stuff like that.”

Big tried his hardest to get him to show his sensitive side but it didn’t work. And if he had to chose between saving Nicki Minaj or Drake from drowning and there was only room for one on a life raft, he said he’d save Nicki. And between Drake and Lil’ Wayne, he said “I’d extend both hands.” Then he admitted, he’d save Wayne.

He also talked about his love of roulette and revealed that though he’s not a big gambler, he’s had nights where he’s lost at least $40,000.

At least they’re prepared for the slightest hint of trouble. One of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie‘s kids accidentally pushed a ‘panic alarm’ inside their house last night that prompted a Herculean response from the LAPD, according to TMZ. Police cars AND a helicopter were sent to the family’s Los Feliz home at 9pm after an alarm went off.

TMZ’s sources say the police were told it was a huge mistake when they arrived at the compound in the trendy east hills, and informed by a nanny that one of the children pressed the alarm by mistake. Brad and Angelina weren’t at home but were informed about the false alarm by the nanny.

The family have just returned from Donna Karan’s home in Turks and Caicos where they spent the holidays with their families, and all those children. But it seems the family may not be taking care of Maddox, Shiloh, Knox, Vivienne, Pax and Zahara alone.

Kim Kardashian has been made a substantial offer to document the remaining months of her pregnancy on a specialist pregnancy website. David Dginguerian, an Armenian filmmaker, wants to launch a membership-only website called MyPregnancy.com. And he’s got his sights set on Kim, 32, who is of Armenian descent, to be its gestating poster girl.

Witnessing your fiancé having a fight with an ex isn’t the best way to welcome in a new year, but Sofia Vergara seemed to be getting over the bust up in the old fashion way. With a bit of retail therapy. Joining her on a shopping trip in Miami was her guilty partner Nick Loeb, who is no doubt hoping to make amends after his ungentlemanly behavior which left Sofia baring more of her ample curves than she was hoping.

Dressed for the weather, the actress wore a vibrant palm leaf-print maxi skirt and black vest top with some gold bracelets and sunglasses. Nick opted for a similarly casual look in a faded blue polo shirt and grey chinos. Clearly Sofia was looking for an oversize handbag as she tried and tested a few large leather ones in red, black and cream, that all featured some stud detail.

On New Year’s Eve she and her fiancé Nick Loeb were involved in a scuffle at a Miami club that left Sofia exposed and knocked to the ground. Nick was apparently on edge already because he was jealous of the club owner and host of the party, Chris Paciello, who dated Sofia in the nineties. Clearly the doting boyfriend, Martin seemed completely relaxed with the little ones as he ferried them inside, proving that he’s becoming a permanent family fixture. Clutching some juice boxes for the kids, while Heidi held an apple, he seemed happy in his new role as surrogate dad.

Eva Mendes‘ slightly disheveled and definitely distracted appearance on Saturday could be to do with her missing her man. The actress, who is dating heart throb Ryan Gosling, has not seen him since before the New Year, according to reports, because of work commitments.

She was seen going for a hike on NYE with her dog and then was spotted in Downtown Los Angeles staring intently at her phone and looking a bit glum. Mendes was also not her usual stylish self – perhaps missing Gosling, 32, was the reason. The 38-year-old star was wearing baggy pajama-like pants with a rose pattern and a black long-sleeved polo neck.

Every time biracial actress Chelsee Healey seems to pull herself back from the brink of a fashion fiasco, she steps out in another outfit fit for the ‘What were you thinking?’ pages. And it was no different on Saturday night, for the actress stepped out in some Pretty Woman style leather boots.

She might be pregnant but Kim Kardashian obviously sees no need to relax her busy schedule. The busy reality star flew into Miami on Sunday, and announced plans to head off on a promotional tour to the Ivory Coast.

The star wore oversized glasses and went make-up free as she arrived at the airport. Kim’s oversized pink shirt skimmed what appeared to be the start of a baby bump, with Kim teaming it with a white blazer, loose brown pants and nude heels.

Earlier on Saturday, Kim tweeted that she was enjoying a bit of sweets, something which her celebrity trainer Tracy Anderson may not approve of.

‘Apple pie caramel apple from the Rockie Mountain Chocolate Factory. Oldie but gooooooodie!!!!’ she wrote.

The slip in healthy eating as a big departure for Kim, who hired Anderson based on her latest workout venture, the Pregnancy Project, and her expertise with helping women stay on track.

Former head of Sony Music and Mariah Carey‘s controversial first husband, Tommy Mottola, has hit-back at claims he was a controlling tyrant during their marriage, writing in his upcoming memoir that the singer should be grateful as he made her a star.

Carey has previously described her four year marriage to Mottola, the record executive who first signed her, as a ‘private hell’ and said the music supremo, 20 years her senior, abused her ‘mentally and emotionally’.

The singer, now one of the best selling music artists of all time, married the record company boss at the age of 23. She said he was jealous and overpowering and she ‘longed for someone to kidnap’ her from the unhappy marriage which lasted from 1993 to 1997.

For Kim Kardashian making her private life public is her very reason for stardom. But it seems motherhood may have already begun to have an effect on the reality star, who is in the early stages of pregnancy. Kim, 32, and her boyfriend Kanye West are said to have turned down a huge $3 million offer for the first exclusive photos of their yet to be born child.

A source told website TMZ that the couple have been ‘flooded’ with lucrative offers from media outlets desperate to be the first to publish the baby pictures. The huge $3 million offer compares to Brangelina’s $4.1 million payout following the birth of their first child Shiloh in 2006. Although that was dwarfed by the $14 million they received after the birth of the twins. The couple donated the payments to a charitable trust they had set up.

‘I can understand why a woman finds a young man attractive, because the truth is that when men get older, their shape changes,’ Klum said.

‘Younger men train more, and when the clothes come off, it is nice to look at a sexy, ripped body.  But I am realistic. I’m turning 40 next year. ‘I don’t think I could deal with waking up next to a 25-year-old.’

Klum, who is dating her bodyguard Martin Kirsten, said she believes every woman should be a ‘little devil’ sometime in the bedroom.

Naomi certainly wanted to get that message across as she put on a show of solidarity among her new show’s co-stars at the Television Critics Association winter press tour on Monday.

The glamorous panel featured models Karolina Kurkova and Coco Rocha, as well as host Nigel Barker and Shine America president Eden Gaha. The 42-year-old British supermodel, however, took center stage wearing a white halter top pant suit with flat strappy sandals, along with heavy sets of bangles on each wrist.

New father Matthew McConaughey attends Critics Circle Awards…

He’s shed an alarming 38lbs for his role in the Dallas Buyers club. But on Monday night Matthew McConaughey added some extra bulk to his scrawny physique by layering up in a suit and long coat.

The 43-year-old actor – whose wife Camila Alves gave birth to their third child on December 28 – posed on the red carpet at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards.

McConaughey has been existing on a meager diet to shed the pounds for his role as real-life AIDS victim Ron Woodroof in the movie. He still looked gaunt in the face, but had shaved off his mustache which he had been sporting recently while filming the movie. Matthew arrived solo at the event, held at Crimson, and without his wife Camila Alves, who was most likely taking care of their newborn son Livingston.

Writing on his Whosay page lat month, the actor declared: ‘Camila gave birth to our third child yesterday morning. Our son, Livingston Alves McConaughey, was born at 7:43 a.m. on 12.28.12. ‘He greeted the world at 9 lbs., and 21 inches. Bless up and thank you for your well wishes.’

Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt turned 8 years old on January 8, 2013. The adopted daughter of Hollywood’s sought after actors Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt was born and adopted in Ethiopia, Africa at 6 months old.

Of the adoption, Sosina Yeman, a worker at the social affairs office in Awasa, said: “She was such a beautiful thing. As soon as I saw her I thought about adopting her. When I came back to the office the next day, she had already been taken. I have been thinking about her ever since, but I suppose I could have never offered her the life she will have now.” 

Zahara was mistakenly believed to be infected with the AIDS virus but future testing proved that she was in fact not afflicted and after the trip back to the United States, she was hospitalized/diagnosed for dehydration and malnutrition and not AIDS.

Going back to school after the Christmas holidays is always a downer. But Sandra Bullock and her son Louis seem to be getting on with it. The Demolition Man star was spotted picking her cute little boy up from pre-school in Los Angeles, California, on Monday and the pair seemed cheerful and in good spirits following the festive break.

The 48-year-old actress was sporting the current trend of wedged high top sneakers. She teamed them with stonewashed grey jeggings and a cosy black jumper. Sandra’s dark hair was pulled tightly back off her face showing off her enviable cheekbones and she protected her eyes from the sun in oversize Wayfarer type shades.

Rapper Eve debuts video for ‘She Bad Bad’…

She’s still bad and she’s rapping about it. Rapper Eve has suffered plenty of pushbacks on her upcoming album ‘Liplock’, but it may just see the light of day this time around. Especially since she finally released the video for her debut singer ‘She Bad Bad’.

The rapper recently ended her relationship with record label Interscope to start her own label Blondie Rockwell, Inc, on which the upcoming album is being released. The former HBIC of the Ruff Ryders is seen rapping her verses in a black & white/sepia style video with an African influenced chorus.

The rapper is currently in a relationship with British entrepreneur, creative director, racing driver, ex-skateboarder, and founder of the Gumball 3000 brand Maximillion Cooper, and are rumored to be expecting their first child this year.

The duelling divas Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj have revealed that their cat fighting on American Idol isn’t an act – and their latest public snipe-fest is proof.

The judges of the hit singing show were at a press conference for the Television Critics Association Winter Tour on Tuesday morning and while things started out pleasantly enough with the two stars complementing each other, the atmosphere soon soured.

When asked if their sparring was real or merely a ploy to generate more buzz about the show, Mariah, said: ‘It’s a passionate panel. The fight is what it is.’

According to the blog Vulture.com a journalist then asked the warring women to say something nice about each other. Nicki, 30, went first and said: ‘I say nice things about Mariah all the time. She is one of my favorite artists of all time. ‘To be on a panel with her, it’s kind of crazy. All the singers come in aspiring to be Mariah, in terms of talent and in terms of career length.’

A raunchy reference to Honey Nut Cheerios left basketball star Carmelo Anthony anything but happy and healthy, and fueled his rage during a fight on the court, it was revealed today. Tempers flared between the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett during their game on Monday.

From replays of the conflict, it’s not clear what set Anthony off, but one suggestion was that Garnett insulted his wife, reality star La La Vasquez, with a reference to the popular breakfast cereal. BlackSportsOnline.com reported that Garnett told Anthony, ‘you’re wife tastes like Honey Nut Cheerios,’ citing sources that were present for the game.

Sofia looked to be her usual charming self on set and was all smiles for the rest of the cast and crew. As the face of the brand the 40-year-old wore a stunning sleeveless number with a plunging neck line, which perfectly showed off her assets. After her harrowing ordeal in which she was left injured, Naomi Campbell is finally back on the mend. The British supermodel was seen following the doctor’s orders as she took a long walk down the beach on Wednesday. Naomi, 42, was seen getting some exercise in Miami beach, Florida, as part of her rehabilitation from her leg injury.

Director Judd Apatow’s eldest daughter Maude could soon be lighting up the Saturday Night Live stage if her eerily good impression of the Kardashian sisters is anything to go by.  In a deleted scene from This Is 40, the 15-year-old accurately mimics Khloe, Kourtney and Kim Kardashian.

In the clip, Maude’s character Sadie video chats with a male friend – played by Ryan Lee – about the Kardashians. And she unleashes such a brilliant wrap about the three sisters that it’s amazing the scene was cut. One fan, is 32-year-old Kim herself who tweeted: ‘Truuuue’ with a link to the video on her Celebuzz blog with the title ‘This is so funny!’

Legendary David Bowie is back after two year  recording in secret!!!

He stunned the world by announcing the release of his first new music in 10 years – but David Bowie has in fact spent the past two years recording in secret, it has been revealed. The reclusive star chose his 66th birthday on Tuesday to announce his new album,The Next Day, and the release of a single, Where Are We Now?, which is already at the top of the UK iTunes chart – beating Taylor Swift – and will chart this weekend.

And on Tuesday, his longtime producer Tony Visconti revealed he had been working in secret on the ‘contemplative’ disc with the ‘happy and healthy’ superstar, saying: ‘I’ve been listening to this on headphones, walking through the streets of New York, for the past two years.’

Meanwhile, another cohort, Jonathan Barnbrook, who designed the album cover that subverts Bowie’s Heroes album cover, told how the title is evocative of Shakespeare’s Macbeth – and told how the record is ‘contemplative’ and ‘melancholy’.

Tony Visconti told the BBC: ‘I have not tired of a single song. I think the material on this album is extremely strong and beautiful. That has enabled him to inch closer to his former weight, and Matthew revealed last week he was five pounds away from his target weight after adding 25lbs to his lowest weight – a frighteningly thin 135lbs. The actor lost the Best Supporting Actor nomination on Thursday night to Philip Seymour Hoffman (The Master).

But the new father, whose wife Camila Alves gave birth to their third child Livingston on December 28, seemed happy to be among the list of nominees, and as of late, more concerned about getting back to top health.

They are rarely seen without a racket in their hand and sweat on their brow.
But for the Williams sisters, it seems there’s no such thing as a day off, for even during a friendly game of ping pong, the pair couldn’t turn off their competitive zeal. The dynamic duo, Venus, 32 and Serena Williams, 31, were in Melbourne Australia, where they attended an event in their honor at the Olsen Hotel.

Ditching their usual attire of white shorts and their trusty visors, the sisters looked glammed up and gorgeous as they posed up for the cameras outside the hotel. Serena Williams showed off her fine athletic physique in a strapless purple dress covered in a floral motif. Meanwhile her sister Venus opted for opted for a figure hugging knee-length dress with a zig-zag black and white print.

And despite not being kitted out in sportswear, guests watched in awe as the sisters took on a game of table tennis effortlessly going head to head. The fashionista sisters are currently Down Under where they are set to compete in one of the world’s biggest tennis tournaments, The Australian Open in Melbourne next week. Kardashian sisters are sued for ‘stealing name’ of $6m cosmetics line from make-up artist…

It looked like they were onto yet another money-spinning winner when they launched their own cosmetics line. But it looks like the Kardashian Klan could be left with an expensive legal bill after they were sued for allegedly stealing the name for Khroma Beauty, for which they are guaranteed to make up to $6.2 million.

Make-up artist Lee Tillett is seeking $10m in damages from the sisters and Boldface Group Inc, which markets their line. She claims it infringes on her Kroma Make-up line, which she founded back in 2004.

Daniel Day-Lewis looks set for Oscar success after being nominated for an Academy Award for his role in Lincoln. A win would make it a hat-trick of best actor Oscar wins for the British-born star, who has already taken home Oscars for My Left Foot in 1989 and There Will Be Blood in 2007.
