The British National Television Awards 2013

The National Television Awards is a British television awards ceremony, broadcast by the ITV network and initiated in 1995. The National Television Awards are the most prominent ceremony for which the results are voted on by the general public.

Because of the way the awards are decided, winners are not given the title “Best”, but rather “Most Popular”. The first ceremony was held in August 1995 and was hosted by Eamonn Holmes. From 1996 onwards it was traditionally held annually in October and hosted by Sir Trevor McDonald. However, after no ceremony was held in 2009, McDonald stepped down from the role, which passed to Dermot O’Leary. The January 2010 ceremony was hosted at the London O₂ Arena.

Unlike the BAFTAs and other similar awards ceremonies, the National Television Awards allow foreign programs to be nominated, providing they have been screened on a British channel during the eligible time period. For example, American series Desperate Housewives was nominated in the 2005 Most Popular Drama category.

It is the most eagerly anticipated British TV awards show of the year which sees small screen celebrities styled to perfection.

It was unfortunate for X Factor mentor Nicole who had tried her hardest to look sensational at the awards bash, held on Thursday evening at the O2. Nicole was dressed head-to-toe in black but managed to reveal a little too much when the flashbulbs went off.

The dress turned sheer in the lights, showing that the singer was braless except for some strategically placed nipple covers. Although that didn’t stop the former Pussycat Doll from flashing a smile as she glided into the show and to be fair to the singer, once she was inside her fashion faux pas was all forgotten.

Speaking to the MailOnline she revealed she had caught up with fellow Pussycat Doll Ashley Roberts recently:

She said: ‘Of course we have caught up recently and I supported her on the show. Well I would like to say yes to a Pussycat Doll reunion, but you don’t know.’ Nicole added the she was ‘proud’ of X Factor.

With her dark hair pulled demurely off her face in a long curly ponytail the X Factor judge almost pulled off the ice cool look. That is, until she pulled open her dress to reveal her almost knee length Spanx. Spanx are a favorite of the curvy celebrities, but it is a surprise size 8 Tulisa opted for the slimming aid, although perhaps she was wary of the brightly lit ceremony ahead. The X Factor is nominated for best talent show.

This Morning host Holly showed off her famously curvy-figure in a skin-tight black dress, while friend Christine went for a more daring look in a red dress with lace paneling. Holly opted for a splash of bright red lipstick while the Dancing On Ice host went for a far more fresh-faced look.

Presenters Zoe Hardman and Laura Whitmore both made sure that they stood out from the crowd in eye-catching dresses. The EastEnders cast also seemed to have gone all out, hoping to pick up the award for Best Soap again at the ceremony.
