Obama‘s biggest advantage: Incumbency…
Forget the polls, forget the turnout models — even forget the issues for a moment.
Obama is an incumbent. Since George Washington took the first oath of office in 1789, a total of 31 sitting presidents have participated in national elections — and 21 have won.
For you baseball fans out there, that’s a winning percentage of .677. For whatever reason — the ability to divert federal dollars, the opportunity to dictate the news cycle, or the desire of voters not to switch horses in midstream — being an incumbent has been a big advantage in presidential elections.
Sitting presidents have an even better batting average in the 20th and 21st centuries. Click here to continue reading…
Three reasons why the race is so close; nine reasons why Obama will win…
As Election Day grows closer, some pundits seem almost breathless in their prediction that the Presidential election will be close. Well, of course it will be close. It has been obvious from the campaign’s first day that it would be close. But there is overwhelming evidence that President Obama will win.
Why is the race so close?
1). First and foremost, the Republicans’ trickledown, let-Wall-Street-run-wild policies sent the economy into a catastrophic recession just as Obama took office. This was not your run of the mill business cycle recession. It was caused by a financial collapse the likes of which America had not seen since the Great Depression.
The historic evidence is very clear that whenever there is a recession induced by a financial collapse, it take years for an economy to recover. American did not fully recover from the Great Depression itself until World War II — almost twelve years after the stock market collapsed.
Had the Republicans remained in office and responded as Republican President Hoover did in 1929, the same fate could have awaited America once again. But instead, the Obama Administration moved immediately to stimulate the economy and shore up the financial system — and especially to rescue the auto industry — using policies that in most cases the GOP opposed.
Those policies have set the economy on a path toward sustained growth. But the Republicans have been hell-bent on stalling growth with the expressed purpose of defeating Obama this fall. They have sabotaged the economy by preventing even a vote on the Americans Jobs Act that most economists believe would create another 1.7 million jobs and would have prevented massive layoffs in state and local governments. President Obama about the Carters: “Beyonce could not be sweeter to Michelle and the girls”…
While campaigning in the swing state of Ohio, President Obama stopped by Cleveland’s hip hop station Z107.9 to sway a few listeners his way. During the interview, he talked about becoming friends with The Carters (who raised $4M for his campaign last month).
“I’ve gotten to know these guys over the first several years. They’re good people. Beyonce could not be sweeter to Michelle and the girls. So they’re good friends. We talk about the same things I talk about with all my friends.”
The President is also a fan of the couple’s music. When asked about his favorite Jay-Z song he said: “You know, I gotta say I go with some other stuff like ‘My 1st Song,’ which just kinda keeps me steady. It’s a great song. It reminds you that you always have to stay hungry.”
He also offered Jay-Z some advice about being father to Blue Ivy: “I made sure that Jay-Z was helping Beyonce out [with the baby], and not leaving it all with Beyonce and the mother-in-law.”
And for voters who are still undecided on who they’d like to run the country, President Obama drove home his accomplishments to the listeners:
“Think about all the things we’ve already gotten done. We saved an auto industry, saved a million jobs throughout Ohio and Michigan, we’ve gotten health care reform, we have made sure that we expanded student loan programs and Pell Grant programs; so a lot of stuff has gotten done, but we have a lot more to do.
“My hope is we have a decisive victory in this election, that Republicans, who spent a lot of time worry about trying to beat me, will start focusing on trying to improve the country.” Via TheYBF.
Whoopi Goldberg faces Twitter hate after Ann Romney ‘View’ interview…
Whoopi Goldberg faced a barrage of angry and insulting tweets from Mitt Romney supporters following a segment on “The View” featuring Ann Romney and one of the five Romney sons.
On the Thursday episode of the weekday talk show, Goldberg asked Ann Romney why none of the Romney men, including her husband and sons, have never served in the military, inquiring whether the reason for Romney’s lack of service during the Vietnam was due to a religious deferment based on his Mormon faith.
“Now, I believe that your religion doesn’t allow you to go fight,” Goldberg said.
“No, that’s not correct,” Romney responded. “We have many, many members of our faith that are serving in armed services.”
“OK, um, well I say that because when I read about your husband, what I had read, and maybe you can correct this, is that the reason that he didn’t serve in Vietnam was because it was against the religion,” Goldberg asked. “That’s what I read, I’m sorry.”
“No, that’s not correct,” Romney said. “He was serving his mission. My five sons have also served their mission.” Romney later added, “I sent them away as boys and they came back men.”
Cheryl Cole‘s mic fails as she opens ‘Stand Up To Cancer‘… with viewers accusing her of ‘miming’…
It had been a week of triumphs, with her solo tour drawing to a close and Girls Aloud announcing their long-awaited comeback. But Cheryl Cole suffered the ultimate embarrassment as she took to the stage during the Stand Up To Cancer charity telethon on Channel 4 on Friday night.
Although there’s no doubt the 29-year-old singer looked stunning as she opened the show, she experienced an epic fail when it came to her sound. As she took to the stage ready to perform her heart out for the good cause, it would appear that only the backing track to Call My Name was playing.
While the cause of the apparent mic failure is unknown, fans were left baffled as Cheryl appeared to be whispering along to her track for the entire first half of the track. It was clear the pop princess was aware of the gaffe, as she looked a far cry from her usual sparky self – and seemed to be hiding beneath her hair extensions for most of the performance. A monthly look at Style.com ‘Face of the month’: Sade Adu…
If Sade‘s sultry vocals didn’t hook you, her lacquered red lips, tight, braided ponytail, and oversized gold hoops likely did. The Nigerian-born, British-bred crooner was a knockout, and she’s still bowling people over decades after her last big hit.
Jean Paul Gaultier sent Sade look-alikes down his Spring runway, and Olivier Rousteing borrowed her signature hoops and shoulder pads for his Balmain collection. As it turns out, fashion has played no small role in the life of Helen Folasade Adu.
After studying at Central Saint Martins, Sade modeled and launched a menswear line before joining the band Pride. With influences including Nina Simone and Billie Holiday, she quickly outshined the ensemble—and climbed the charts as a solo act.
Sade was the only African-born artist to appear at Live Aid in 1985, and she went on to release four platinum-selling albums and earn four Grammy nominations by the early nineties.
Her worldwide success has made her the biggest-selling British female artist of all time in the U.S.—not even Adele has her beat. Smooth operator, indeed. And designers aren’t the only ones taking style notes. The up-and-coming British soul star Jessie Ware owes everything to Sade, down to her painted lips and single braid. X-Factor UK Fashion face-off: Nicole Scherzinger vs. Tulisa Contostavlos…
It has been a tough battle week to week with Nicole Scherzinger and Tulisa Contostavlos fighting to be crowned the most stylish X Factor judge. And while Nicole might have been conquering Tulisa over the past few live shows, it was the former N-Dubz star’s time to shine on Saturday night’s program.
Nicole appeared to have channeled her Men In Black 3 character with her high plaited ponytail, and did little to impress her fans in a girly high-necked, long-sleeved red minidress. Nicole called upon one of Britain’s most popular designers for this week’s outfit.
Meanwhile, Tulisa ditched her usual urban outfits for something more sophisticated in a corseted dress, featuring a patterned top and high-waisted black skirt detail. She left her brunette hair loose in tumbling curls for the occasion.
The two judges have been in a fashion show off since the beginning of the live shows, as both try to impress their fans with their extreme style choices. But despite their varying fashion sense, the two appeared to have been getting along fine on the show.
Nicole mentors the boys this time, while Tulisa mentors the girls category. Click here to continue reading…

Kofi Annan: “Paul Ryan was dead wrong on Syria”…
Former U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan is warning that military intervention in Syria by the major powers won’t work.
In comments to be aired Sunday on CNN’s “Fareed Zakaria GPS,” Annan says the situation in Syria is more complex than in Libya, and that military intervention could make things worse.
Annan was the special envoy to Syria until August, when he resigned after his peace plan failed. That led Republican Paul Ryan to say in the vice presidential debate that the U.S. shouldn’t have waited for Annan to develop an agreement and that the delay had bought Syrian President Bashar Assad more time.
Annan says Ryan is, quote, “dead wrong.” He says raising the hopes of the Syrian people while other countries are still reluctant to intervene complicates the situation. Click here to watch the video…
Mitt Romney Squirms from ‘Romnesia’ Sting…
Oh, Romnesia stings. It got under Mitt Romney’s skin. If you have been living under a rock the past couple of days, here’s the quick and dirty on Romnesia: the President, campaigning in Viriginia on Friday, introduced a new term for Mitt Romney’s condition of abandoning his own policy positions at the speed of light: Romnesia.
Apparently, the sting was a little too much for Mr. Entitled:
“The Obama campaign has become the incredible shrinking campaign,” Romney said at an oceanside rally here with his running mate, Rep. Paul Ryan. “This is a big country with big opportunities and big challenges. And they keep talking about smaller and smaller things.”
He thinks the president is being “petty.” Here’s a news flash, Mitt. If what the President said didn’t have a way of cutting to the bottom of the problem with your incredible dancing candidacy, you would never have spared a thought on it. The fact of the matter is, this campaign is about big things. Here are just a few big things the President pointed out in describing your Romnesia:
- You are openly lying about your own tax and spending plan that will immediately add $8 trillion to the debt and all you have offered to close the gap was defunding Planned Parenthood and killing Big Bird.
- The country is still waiting to hear whether you would have signed the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act.
- You are for really big government – government big enough to monitor every pregnancy in the country, and you are for letting employers block women’s access to contraception.
- You are running on the promise of taking health care away from 32 million people, letting insurance companies run the table by denying people based on pre-existing conditions and dropping them when they need insurance the most. Click here to continue reading…
Steven Spielberg gives $1 million to Obama Campaign…
President Obama’s super PAC Priorities USA had its biggest haul yet last month, with the help of entertainment kings Steven Spielberg and Jeffery Katzenberg.
The director and DreamWorks CEO donated $1 million each, along with attorney David Boies Jr., who fought to overturn California’s Proposition 8. Priorities USA raised a total of $15.25 million this month, and the young PAC has been attracting big-name donors like Morgan Freeman and Bill Maher, who donated $1 million, along with Chicago media mogul Fred Horwich Eychaner, who gave $3 million. Maybe this is why Obama has been leading Romney in cash intake and spending. Via TheDailyBeast.
Obama v Romney: Children weigh in on the 2012 election
They may be powerless in this election, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have opinions.
On the campaign trail, Mitt Romney and Barack Obama are wooing the women, courting the Latinos and pursuing the working class. As the candidates pander to the multitudes of demographics in the hopes of securing a seat in the Oval Office, one demographic remains ignored – children.
While the under-18s may be powerless in the 2012 election, they are the group who will be most affected by the actions of the next president, and the internet is filled with their interpretations of the electoral process.
New York non-profit Story Pirates adapted eight-year-old Julia Isabel Padro’s understanding of the political system into an animated story voiced by 30 Rock’s Kristen Schaal.
“We take stories written by elementary schoolers and we adapt them into a show,” Story Pirates creative director Drew Callander told the Guardian. “What adapting means is that it can be a stage show, where we do a sort musical sketch comedy show, music videos or cartoons.”Click here to continue reading…
Obama wins by a landslide in kids’ online election…
It’s a landslide for President Barack Obama — at least among people too young to vote.
Nickelodeon’s Linda Ellerbee said Monday that the president captured 65 percent of the vote to beat Republican Mitt Romney in the network’s “Kids Pick the President” vote. More than 520,000 people cast online ballots through the children’s network’s website over one week earlier this month.
Since it began in 1988, the kids have presaged the adults’ vote all but once, when more youngsters voted for John Kerry over George W. Bush in 2004.
Obama answered questions submitted by Nickelodeon viewers for a special earlier this month. Romney didn’t participate. Via TheGrio.
Hawaii, the State that doesn’t vote!
Elle Cochran grew up far too enchanted by Maui’s rocky coastline and beach-bum lifestyle to care a thing about politics and voting.
“You get up, work, go to the beach, sleep — and do it again,” she said of life on this Hawaiian island, which, of course, is known for its surf. “It’s just this routine.”
But after a real estate project was proposed on Honolua Bay — a cliff-lined cove near her home that’s known for its ruler-straight waves — she decided to do something that’s bizarre for a non-voter. She ran for county council.
“I never voted until I ran for office,” she said.
In other words: The first ballot she cast was for herself. In what state but Hawaii would that even be possible?
I came to the Aloha State not for the beaches, volcanoes and helicopter tours but because Hawaii has the lowest voter turnout rate in the nation. In the 2008 presidential race, when Barack Obama — Hawaii’s body-surfing, shaka-throwing native son — was at the top of the ticket, fewer than half of eligible Hawaii residents voted.
One Hawaii resident said the combativeness of politics just doesn’t ‘flow’ in a state this beautiful. Compare that with the No. 1 civic-minded state, Minnesota, where 78% cast ballots. We can all agree that’s a problem, right? Click here to continue reading…

Naomi Campbell interviews Zaha Hadid for Interview Magazine Germany…
In a role we’re not used to seeing, model Naomi Campbell steps forward to interview Zaha Hadid, the first woman to win the Pritzker Prize for Architecture in its 26 year history, ZAHA HADID (1950-) has defined a radically new approach to architecture by creating buildings, such as the Rosenthal Center for Contemporary Art in Cincinnati, with multiple perspective points and fragmented geometry to evoke the chaos of modern life. Read more about Zaha Hadid here and continue on to read the interview…
NAOMI CAMPBELL: Hello Zaha. We are short of time, and I have many questions, so let’s get started. In your interviews you speak a lot about experimental nature of early avant-garde. Is that what your book is about?
ZAHA HADID: The book is based on the show about Russian suprematism that we did two years ago in Gallery Gmurzynska in Zurich. We installed my works imitating suprematism among the gallery’s collection of Russian suprematists.
Russians were obsessed with the thing during the whole of the XX century: all these sputniks, dogs in space, the monument next to the park of Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy, exhibition centers with things that would look like hovering planets. It was just like everything was flying, the whole thing. They even had bottle openers shaped as rockets, I used to have a lot, don’t know where they are.
NAOMI: If I’m not mistaken, even your school project was called Malevich’s Tektonik.
HADID: Yes, that was my fourth year project. I was a student of Rem Koolhaas. Once we were assigned to come up with a new scale for objects by locating them somewhere. I placed mine on the bridge over the Thames. This was meant to show that works of such suprematists as Malevich and Lissitzky are only seen as art objects because they have no scale to be compared to. But the minute you put scale they become architecture. Click here to read the full interview…

Pope names first Native American saint…
Sunday was a big day for Catholics in North America. Thousands of miles away in Rome, Pope Benedict XVI named 17th century Mohawk Kateri Tekakwitha the first Native American saint.
Another newly named saint is Marianne Cope, a German-born woman who emigrated to the United States as a child, became a nun and went on to devote 30 years of her life helping lepers in Hawaii.
Their canonization, along with that of five other saints, was celebrated at a special Mass in St. Peter’s Square Sunday morning:
“This is a great weekend for America in the Vatican, and it’s really a great weekend for Native Americans. Sainthood is the guarantee that this person is close to God,” said Vatican senior communications adviser Greg Burke.
“There’s a vast history of people the Catholic Church has made saints over the centuries. Holiness is absolutely a matter of equal opportunity, but this certainly is special because it marks the first time a Native American becomes a saint.”Click here to continue reading…

Tamera Mowry‘s husband Adam Housely, talks becoming a dad…
In his first-ever myStyle interview, Tamera Mowry-Housley‘s handsome hubby, Adam, dishes about the importance of family and how he’s feeling this very moment with fatherhood just around the corner.
What was your first thought when you found out Tamera was expecting?
My heart hit the floor. It truly took my breath away. It’s one of those moments in time that is truly life-changing. You always hear and think about it, but you just don’t know the feeling until it happens to you. It’s a mix of excitement, happiness, fear and about 50 other emotions that hit you all at once.
Have you always wanted to be a dad?
Absolutely! I have always wanted to be a father. I have always loved being with kids. From a very young age, my parents had my brother and I around other kids.
I have held babies in my arms since I was little and watched many of these kids grow up through the years, so I feel comfortable around kids. Also, my parents and grandparents were such amazing examples of how much fun it is being a parent and also how it’s the most important job you’ll ever handle.
How many children do you eventually want to have?
Two of our own, if we are so blessed and maybe adopt an older child who doesn’t have a home or family.
How’s home life been since Tamera became pregnant?
Actually, it hasn’t been that much different than before. Tamera has been a great mom already. We have always eaten healthy, been active and on-the-go, and that has continued. Obviously, we didn’t travel much the last few months here in the end.
Normally, we would try and visit our friends in London, and we haven’t. We missed a few friends’ weddings on the East Coast because Tamera can’t fly and I won’t go without her…we’re a team. Tamera does miss having a glass or two of wine each week though. Click here to continue reading the interview…
Tia Mowry-Hardrict celebrates son’s 1st birthday…
Tia Mowry-Hardrict and husband recently celebrated their son Cree’s 1st birthday. It was a lavish party with all the bells and whistles. On the topic of her son’s birthday, the reality star said:
“Tia Says It’s OK to Go All Out for Your Child’s Birthday. You can never be over-the-top when it comes to your child’s first birthday. It’s a celebration of life. However big you want it, then so be it. I wouldn’t judge anybody who throws a big birthday party for any of their children. Children are a blessing; children are miracles. To celebrate their birthdays is very, very special to me.”
“I absolutely loved how’s Cree’s first birthday party turned out! I had so much fun; he had a lot of fun; the guests had a lot of fun. It was just a really, really nice event for everyone. At first, I was afraid that no one would show up since I tried to be environmentally friendly by sending Evites, which backfired on me because they all went to everyone’s spam.”
“I really wanted everyone to come together because I’m usually so busy and I don’t have time to interact with my friends and family too much. It was just very important for everyone to show up and have a great time—and they did!”
“The entertainment, Mr. Silly, was also well-received. I was shocked when Cree reacted negatively to the clowns and princess that auditioned for the party. I was really, really nervous for Cree because I had never ever seen him react that way. But Mr. Silly turned out great. He interacted well with the kids.” Images provided by MyStyle.

The X-Factor UK Fashion face-off continues…and Tulisa Contostavlos wins!
She started off on the wrong foot when it came to her X Factor look, but Tulisa seems to have made a style turnaround. The London-born judge, who was overshadowed by Nicole Scherzinger in the first few weeks of the live shows, seems to have found her fashion footing as she wowed in another winning outfit on Sunday’s live results show.
She impressed on Saturday night’s show with a sophisticated bustier and pencil skirt, and now Tulisa has done it again in a black patent prom dress. Cinched in at the waist with a stylish gold, chain belt, Tulisa paired the Milly by Michelle Smith dress with her favorite black mesh shoes.
The 24-year-old, who looked over the moon when all of her girls made it through on the live show, wore her long dark hair wavy and over one shoulder.
With natural make-up and and chunky jewelry, Tulisa looked worlds away from some of her earlier looks.
Nicole opted for a futuristic style Alpana & Neeraj dress, complete with black plastic panels and a sheer top. The judge, who saw all of her boys go through, despite a mixed reaction to Rylan Clark’s performance on Saturday night, paired the tiny dress with towering black heels.
She wore her dark hair half up in a pony tail and again invoked Cheryl Cole, giving a salute as she came out on stage. Click here to continue reading…

A vision in white! Kim Kardashian wears romantic bridal-inspired dress as Kanye West buys her a red rose in Venice for her birthday!
She’s been dreading turning 32, but things seem to be looking up after boyfriend Kanye West whisked her off to Venice for her birthday. And the rapper, 35, showed even more of his romantic side, buying her a red rose as the couple strolled through the one of the city’s iconic squares on Sunday.
The birthday girl dressed up for the occasion by wearing a white little number that resembled a wedding dress. The busy dress featured lace all over and seemed slightly inappropriate and overdressed for the relaxed evening stroll through the city.
Kim teamed up the wedding-like gown with black fringed boots and a small red handbag. Following the monochrome trend, the stylish couple seemed to have coordinated their outfits as Kanye stepped out in all-black to compliment Kim’s black and white attire.
The smitten pair have been in Venice since Friday to celebrate Kim’s dreaded birthday, which took place on Monday. And like most women, the famous Kardashian wasn’t into the idea of turning another year older.
Speaking to E! News in the run-up to her 32nd, Kim revealed: ‘I’m not so into a 32nd birthday. Doesn’t do it for me, so I don’t really care.’
But she seemed to have changed her mind after her romantic boyfriend decided to turn the dreaded event into a big Italian celebration. And it worked, as Kim took to Twitter on Friday to tell her fans of the amazing time she’s having:
‘Italy is so beautiful! Best birthday ever!!!’ Click here to continue reading…
Kim Kardashian continues Italian birthday trip with Kanye West… but they skip galleries for yet more shopping!
She was treated to a surprise birthday trip, jetting across the pond to Italy to tour the likes of romantic Italian cities Rome, Venice and Florence. So you’d think Kim Kardashian couldn’t wait to get her fix of culture and visit the many museums and art galleries on offer as she took to Florence during her latest excursion.
But that wasn’t the case as she decided to ignore the cultural venues dotting the city to instead indulge in yet more shopping with her beau Kanye West. You’d think that she would have had enough of shopping as that’s what she spends a vast majority of her time doing in the States.
But the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star was spotted heading into a shoe store as she walked around the region. Although that wasn’t the only thing that raised eyebrows about her latest outing.
Kim also drew attention for her outfit choice she wore during the uncultured day. She stepped out in an unflattering grey woolen frock which clung in all the wrong places, particularly around her large derriere, which seemed even bigger than usual.
The dress was cut with her back on show, while the high neck looked uncomfortable as it hugged her skin. Click here to continue reading…Heading to the shops: The couple visited Florence as part of Kim’s continued birthday trip but were more interested in buying more clothes

Jhene Aiko, the beautiful multiracial/multitalented soulful singer sold out SOB’s in New York City this past Friday for an intimate show that was opened by RocNation’s ‘Bridget Kelly’. The place was filled wall-to-wall with die hard fans who almost over-sang her on every track that she performed. Jhene, meanwhile, continued to show her gratitude by saying:

The big hair is back: Cheryl Cole shows off her voluptuous hairstyle…
Simon Cowell once told her to get rid of the big hair as he didn’t like it one bit.
But, Cheryl Cole has showed that she truly doesn’t care what the X Factor supremo thinks as she has brought back the big hair with a bang. With a pearly white smile on her face, Cheryl, 29, whipped her hair into a large voluptuous style with added volume as she worked it for the camera.
The pop star was sporting the colossal look as she shot scenes for a L’Oreal Paris campaign, for which she is a spokesmodel. Looking absolutely stunning with her brown locks taking center stage, Cheryl explained that she is feeling better than ever.
Speaking to Hello! she said: ‘I’ve grown as a person and as an artist, you can hear that in my music. I feel brand new.’

“The Elnett Heat Protect Styling Sprays are a god-send to me because I get my hair styled so often, it is just part of the job.”

Obama trying to hold off Romney with women voters…
President Barack Obama has been wearing a pink wristband in recognition of breast cancer awareness month and his challenger, Mitt Romney, donned a pink ribbon on his shirt during a factory stop in Ohio.
The symbolic gestures are part of a determined competition in the campaign’s closing weeks for suburban and working women who could help determine the winner in a series of toss-up states.
Women have emerged as the pivotal voting bloc in the aftermath of the second presidential debate, where Obama and Romney sparred over contraceptives and pay inequality and Romney spoke about reviewing “binders full of women” as governor when he sought to diversify his Massachusetts administration.
Some national polls suggest Obama’s longstanding edge with female voters is narrowing, prompting both sides to make an all-out blitz for women.
At the heart of the debate, which is playing out in the suburbs of northern Virginia and in several swing states, is this question: What will most motivate women in the 2012 election?
Romney’s pitch is heavily focused on economic issues — his campaign contends that the vast majority of women will respond to pocketbook issues like paying for gasoline or groceries, the need for more take-home pay and how the federal debt might affect their children. Click here to continue reading…

South African photographer who depicted apartheid dies…
Alfred Kumalo, a South African photographer whose work chronicled the brutalities of apartheid and the rise of Nelson Mandela, died of renal failure in a Johannesburg hospital on Sunday night, the ruling party said Monday.
The African National Congress described Kumalo as a “rare and significant talent that was pivotal in raising social consciousness and exposing the brutality of the apartheid administration.”
He was 82.
“South Africa has lost a self-taught giant in the media field who still bears the scars of torture and mental scars of continuous detentions by the apartheid security forces,” the ANC said. “The (ANC) bows its head in honor of a singularly brave and daring South African who bequeathed our country and future generations historic moments captured in his camera.”
Kumalo, whose work graces museum walls across South Africa, was perhaps best known for his photos of Nelson and Winnie Mandela as a young couple. The photographer’s career “mirrored the rise in Mr. Mandela’s political career,” said the Nelson Mandela Center of Memory. The center said Kumalo captured “many of the historic events in which (Mandela) played a key role.”
The opposition Democratic Alliance similarly praised Kumalo, saying his work inspired South Africans with a message of hard work and integrity.
“Mr. Kumalo was a photographer who had the courage to honestly reflect the reality of South African life,” the DA said. “His photos provide a visual history of South Africa’s struggle against the brutal apartheid regime and remind us of the importance of an independent media in exposing the excesses of the state.” Click here to continue reading…
Soledad O’Brien and former NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani argued on live TV…
Soledad O’Brien welcomed former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani on her CNN show Starting Point this morning. The conversation was about Libya at first, until it was about Rudy Giuliani’s weird spin room denial answers.
O’Brien asked Giuliani to respond to a clip she played of Matthew Dowd—who used to work for President Bush—speaking on ABC’s This Week. Dowd stated that in his experience it often takes weeks, if not months, to get a the full story when it comes to intelligence gathering.
Dowd had said that he would not be surprised if the White House had received false information before and/or after the attack in Benghazi, Libya that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens. When Giuliani accused her of blaming the Benghazi attack on President Bush, O’Brien dismantled the one-time presidential candidate.
“You’ve got to stop putting words in my mouth, Sir. Seriously? Hang on, let me finish. Every time I ask you a question you like to push back as if somehow the question that’s being posed to you is unfair. It’s not. I’m a journalist, you said some things, I’m trying to get some accurate responses from you. You are welcome to answer.”
The two continued to spar over O’Brien’s determination to do her job (report the facts) and Giuliani’s to do his (spin the truth). Via Gawker.

Crayons and Croissants chats with Chudney Ross…
Crayons and Croissants, a blog about guides to the best in family-friendly travel, mom-approved finds and eco-conscious products, recently sat down to talk to Chudney Ross, writer, teacher, TV host and owner of Books and Cookies.
The new mom, who is biracial daughter of legendary Motown singer Diana Ross, shared her thoughts about books, babies and favorite things to do in Los Angeles. Read the interview below:
C and C: What inspired you to create Books and Cookies?
CR: I came up with the idea for Books and Cookies with my friend Mary Guiliani, who is an event planner in New York. The original idea was to fuse her love of food and my love of children’s literature. It grew by leaps and bounds from the original idea as I sat at coffee shops writing and saw families hanging out with their children for hours on end with nothing really for the kids to do.
I wanted to create a space that parents felt comfortable, but kids were able to grow and learn. I feel fortunate to have found this beautiful location here on Main Street and I am very proud of the creative and fun learning space that Books and Cookies has become.
C and C: I loved reading your debut book, Lone Bean. Do you have another book planned in the Beans Books series?
CR: I always loved reading growing up. I loved that I could get lost in the pages of a book and be who ever I wanted to be. When I began writing, I knew I wanted to create a fun and relatable character and a story that had a positive message told in a light way. Writing this book was a challenge for me and took many years, but I think I achieved what I had hoped for with Lone Bean.
I feel very blessed to have gotten positive reviews from the people who are most important… the children! The plan has always been to write a series of Bean’s Books, but the past couple of years have been so busy with the opening of Books and Cookies, the release of Lone Bean and the birth of my first baby that I haven’t had a chance to sit and focus on writing. Hopefully, soon I will get back to writing and book two will not be far off. Click here to continue reading the interview…

The Third Presidential Debate in Gifs…
Another night, another POTUS hopeful face-off. Barack Obama and Mitt Romney met for the third and final presidential debate of the 2012 election season Monday night. With the serious topic of foreign policy on the agenda and no audience, the GIF opportunities might have seemed limited.
Luckily, Tumblr and the rest of the Interwebz tapped into their finest GIFing talents to offer an animated summary of the evening’s political smack-down.
So, if you missed all the horses, bayonets and other GIFable moments, we put together a handy wrap-up for your viewing pleasure. Via Mashable.
How Romney avoided a real foreign policy debate…
He knew he was in over his head. So he decided not to play. Mitt Romney had a clear three-point plan for Monday night’s foreign-policy debate.
First, agree with President Obama’s most popular national-security decisions (ending the Iraq war, pulling out of Afghanistan by 2014, imposing sanctions on Iran, and sending drones after terrorists) while at the same time hammering repeatedly, though vaguely, on the need to restore American “strength” and “leadership.”
Second, spin those Etch-a-Sketch knobs toward the middle with ferocious energy. Hence Romney’s emphasis on peace, his pledge of no-more-Iraqs, and his endorsement of a “comprehensive strategy” to help the Muslim world build civil societies (while offering no specifics, or even general propositions, on what this strategy would involve).
You’d never know that his top foreign-policy advisers are neo-conservative holdovers. On Benhazi, Romney backed off completely, said nothing. Even on Syria, the one issue where he has gone after Obama with some substantive backing, he eased up, saying that he would not support a no-fly zone against Bashar Assad’s forces or engage in any sort of U.S. military intervention—leaving open the question of what he would do that Obama hasn’t.*
Third, veer the discussion to domestic policy, especially the persistently high unemployment rate, at every opportunity.
In sum, Gov. Romney seemed in over his head, as he has every time he’s spoken out on foreign policy (hence his determination to speak on other things as much as possible), and, perhaps knowing he would be, he adjusted his debate strategy accordingly.
And yet, while President Obama came off as thoughtful and decisive by comparison, and made frequent note of Romney’s flip-flopping (“you’re all over the map” was a favorite phrase of the night), he, too, engaged in long spells of evasion.
The clearest takeaway from the night—nothing new, but still sad—is that it’s probably impossible for American politicians to have an honest discussion about foreign policy, especially in an election year.
The moderator, Bob Schieffer, asked good probing questions of Obama and Romney: What would you do about Syria? How do we influence Pakistan? How do you pressure China on things like currency manipulation without sparking a trade war? What deal would you accept with Iran in negotiations on its nuclear program? If you regard an attack on Israel as an attack on the United States, wouldn’t that policy deter even a nuclear Iran from aggression, as it deterred the Soviet Union for several decades? Final presidential debate exposes the real Mitt Romney…
Throughout much of the campaign season, political analysts have asked variations on the question, “who is Mitt Romney?”
Is he the Massachusetts moderate or the “severe conservative”? The guy whose campaign torched fellow Republicans during the primary and ran “welfare queens” TV ads against Obama in the general to rile up economically insecure white voters, or the conciliator who, gosh darn it, just wants to work with Democrats in Washington to create jobs?
Would the monocled, ice cold capitalist who “extracts profits” from U.S. companies and ships their jobs to China show up at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue on January 20, 2012, or the kindly Mormon minister?
During last night’s third and final presidential debate, which was as tonally different, at least on Romney’s part, from the first debate as night is from day, I think we found out. Mitt Romney is exactly who he has always said he is: a businessman. Before now, we just didn’t know what business he was in. Now we do, and it’s door-to-door sales.
And since his the product he’s currently hawking in America’s neighborhoods is President Romney — a product with few defining features other than tremendous wealth and invisible tax returns — Mitt is engaged in a rather cynical, but also very simple, marketing campaign. On his signature set of issues, Obama puts Romney on defensive…
The final side-by-side between Mitt Romney and Barack Obama was at times not really a debate. On U.S. policy involving Egypt, Iran, Libya, and Pakistan, terrorism and Osama Bin Laden, Romney largely agreed with President Obama’s policies.
The result was a marked contrast between the first two presidential debates. Obama was clearly more well-versed and fluent on the issues, bragging about his success in killing Osama Bin Laden and winding down wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Romney aides had signaled before the debate the view that their candidate would be less effective than in the first two sessions, which were mostly about the economy. He was.
Romney’s strategy seemed to be to agree with Obama on the broader policy, suggest he would execute it slightly better if in office, and then shift attention to the economy, stronger ground for the ex-governor. He was less eager to talk and interrupt Obama and the moderator than in the first two debates.
Obama dominated in terms of cutting, attacking lines, unlike the more even first two debates. He mocked Romney for holding a campaign fundraiser on his trip to Israel over the summer, blasted his rival as having been “all over the map” on the Middle East, and referring to Romney’s recent highlighting of Russia as a security threat said, “you seem to want to import the foreign policies of the 1980′s, just like the social policies of the 1950′s and the economic policies of the 1920′s.” Click here to continue reading…
Review: FLOTUS Michelle Obama‘s debate dress…
First Lady Michelle Obama made a big hit at the third presidential debate last night in Boca Raton, Florida. Donning a Thom Browne dress that she first wore on the second night of the Democratic National Convention, Mrs. O accented the frock the second time around with a brooch and a black belt, giving the familiar piece a dressier air.
“It was serious, yet playful. Dark, but not maudlin,” opines the Philadelphia Enquirer about her choice.
“She looked absolutely lovely,” adds Rebecca Adams of The Huffington Post about the look, going with the mantra, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it,” about Michelle repeating the same dress in such a short period of time.
Ann Romney’s floral ombre Oscar de la Renta look with a pleated skirt did not receive similar rave reviews. While both women selected subdued-toned garments with feminine silhouettes, Romney’s ensemble was not as well-composed.
The Daily Beast called it “not as fashion-forward as Obama’s choice, and with a big, pleated floral skirt, it was a little frumpy.”
The outlet also theorizes that Michelle Obama chose to do a repeated look as an expression of camaraderie during a time when many Americans are struggling financially. She might have an extensive designer wardrobe, but like the rest of us, also has limited resources. Perhaps, “it was a symbol of restraint, an appeal to all Americans: really, I’m just like you,” the Beast muses. Click here to continue reading…

Obama-Romney: Whom do you trust?
President Obama is playing the trust card against Mitt Romney — the Romney forces call it a desperation deal.
In blasting what he calls “Romnesia” — his opponent’s habit of changing positions — Obama told backers Tuesday in Ohio: “Now, we joke about Governor Romney being all over the map, but it speaks to something important — it speaks of trust.
“There’s no more serious issue in a presidential campaign than trust,” Obama said during a rally in Dayton. “Trust matters. You want to know that the person who’s applying to be your President and Commander-in-Chief is trustworthy, that he means what he says, that he’s not just making stuff up depending on whether it’s convenient or not.”
Obama said Romney has changed or is hiding details on such issues as tax cuts that would benefit the wealthy, education assistance, and his opposition to the auto bailout.
Romney aides said voters trusted Obama four years ago, and he let them down. Click here to continue reading…
Ann Coulter calls President Barack Obama a ‘retard’…
During last nights’ third and final presidential debate between President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney, conservative media personality Ann Coulter took to Twitter to express her assessment of how the two candidates were performing, and proceeded to call the president a “retard.”
Coulter’s tweet, which read: “I highly approve of Romney’s decision to be kind and gentle to the retard,” was met with some heavy criticism, as people on Twitter called it “offensive and disrespectful” and asked her, “Are you out of your f**king mind?”according to the Huffington Post.
The conservative commentator is no stranger to controversial and discourteous statements towards the president, especially since the beginning of the presidential debates in October.
While speaking with Fox News’s Fox and Friends after the first debate, Coulter had said, “You could see, at the end of that debate, he knew — anniversary or not — Michelle wanted to go home with Mitt.”
Last night’s debate seemed to have favored Obama, as pundits and polls alike said that the president won the debate in a performance that had Romney agreeing with a majority of the president’s foreign policy positions.

Romney’s son apologizes to Obama for ‘swing’ remark…
Tagg Romney, Mitt Romney’s oldest son, apologized to President Barack Obama Monday for saying he wanted to “take a swing” at him during contentious presidential debates.
Obama and Tagg Romney were seen speaking on the stage after Monday’s final presidential debate, held at Lynn University in Boca Raton, Florida. Two Obama aides said the conversation included an apology for the remark, made last week during a radio interview.
Asked in that interview what it’s like “to hear the President of the United States call your dad a liar,” Tagg Romney joked about his fantasy response.
“Jump out of your seat and you want to rush down to the debate stage and take a swing at him,” he said. “But you know you can’t do that because, well, first because there’s a lot of Secret Service between you and him, but also because that’s the nature of the process. You know they’re going to try to do anything they can do to make my dad into something he’s not.”
“We signed up for it, we’ve got to kind of sit there and take our punches, and send them the other way,” he continued.
One of Tagg Romney’s brothers, Josh, downplayed the comments in an interview on ABC’s “The View.” Click here to continue reading…
Katy Perry, Will Smith, Salma Hayek: stars give Obama final push ahead of Election Day…
Tuesday kicks off the two-week countdown to Election Day. As the presidential candidates ramp up events on the campaign trial, celebrities are throwing their A-list weight behind President Barack Obama during the home stretch.
Sarah Jessica Parker hit the battleground state of Ohio on Saturday, stumping for the Commander-in-Chief with his senior adviser Valerie Jarrett. “You’re doing the real work,” said the Sex and the City star, who hosted an Obama fund-raising dinner at her downtown New York City brownstone in June. “I’m just here to say thank you — and to say that we must win Ohio!”
And this week brings more star support for the democratic ticket. On Wednesday, Katy Perry will lend her voice to an “America Forward” rally in Las Vegas, headlining Obama’s multi-state campaign swing.
And this isn’t the first time Perry performed on behalf of the POTUS. Earlier this month, she joined Jennifer Hudson, Jon Bon Jovi, Earth, Wind & Fire and Stevie Wonder at the “30 Days to Victory” concert fundraiser at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre.
On Thursday, Michelle Obama headed to Los Angeles for another star-studded re-election event. Hollywood power couple Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith also opened their Calabasas, Calif., home to the First Lady for a lunch co-hosted by Salma Hayek. Via Celebuzz.
Katy Perry wears a ballot dress for Obama rally concert in Las Vegas…
Some people like to wear their votes on their sleeves. Others choose to show their political allegiance through jewelry or giant pins. But leave it to Katy Perry to go big or go home: at last night’s Obama campaign rally in Las Vegas, Perry dressed up as a literal ballot.
Performing for a crowd of 13,000 Obama supporters at Las Vegas’ Doolittle Park, Perry showed her support for the president in a tight white dress with black writing. At the top it read “President of the United States” with each nominee and his running mate listed below. The Obama/Biden ticket was checked off, of course.
This is Perry’s second Obama performance this month, having appeared at the “30 Days to Victory” concert on October 7 with the likes of Bon Jovi and Stevie Wonder. But this one took the cake for the wardrobe choice alone — never before have we seen political style taken so literally.
Also, that pleathery dress looks really, um, warm. How is she not shvitzing? Way to take one for the Obama-Biden Team, Perry.

Voting machines in Ohio with business ties to Romney raise alarm…
With just two weeks until the presidential election the race for the White House is still remarkably close.
Recent polls show President Barack Obama and his Republican rival, Mitt Romney, in a neck-and-neck race. For instance, according to a new nationwide NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, the two candidates are tied.
Indeed, it’s widely agreed among political analysts that every single vote counts in this election, especially in key battleground states like Ohio, Florida and Pennsylvania.
In fact, with the incredibly close race comes a growing fear that Republicans are trying to steal the election with a dirty tactics to intimidate voters and manipulate the electoral process.
Democrats argue the push for voter ID laws, shortened early voting time frames or the spreading of rumors that voters will be chastised on Election Day, are all moves to disenfranchise without legitimate justification.
Now, the integrity of electronic voting machines is back in the spotlight. Reports are circulating there are “dubious links” between the voting machines in some counties [Hamilton and William] in Ohio and Governor Romney.
The machines are supplied by Hart Intercivic, a national e-voting company. The Austin-based firm is partially owned by H.I.G Capital, an investment company that has business ties to Solamere Capital, Tagg Romney’s [Mitt’s oldest son] equity firm. Click here to continue reading…

Monroe Cannon is a diva in the making. The 1-year-old was spotted out and about this week in New York City rocking pink glasses and a white outfit that screamed “little princess.” Proud mom Mariah Carey was looking fabulous as always with a form-fitting black outfit and sunglasses that matched the look. Monroe clutched her bunny rabbit as mom carried her through the city.
Nick Cannon recently revealed that he would like his daughter to be big on athletics in the coming years. The ‘America’s Got Talent’ host was apparently a track star himself and would love for his daughter to take after him in running track or doing the high jump.

Angelina Jolie costars with 3 of her kids…
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt‘s children have caught the acting bug!
Two months after a rep for Walt Disney Studios confirmed that the couple’s 4-year-old daughter Vivienne will appear in Angelina’s new movie Maleficent, Us Weekly reports that son Pax, 8, and daughter Zahara, 7, will also appear in mom’s fantasy flick.
“They have smaller parts,” says a source, who adds that Pax and Zahara do not have speaking roles. “Shiloh was supposed to be in it, too, but she was bored and not in the mood during the day her part was supposed to happen, so she ended up not being in the film.”
(Note: The couple’s 6-year-old daughter Shiloh had a brief role in Pitt’s 2008 film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.)
Maleficent pulls from the classic fairy tale Sleeping Beauty, told from the villainess’ perspective. The film is set to hit theaters in March 2014.
“It’s a really great script, and I’m having a lot of fun. I’ve already got my horns fitted,” Jolie said in March, three months before shooting began. “My kids are very happy.” Via CelebBabyScoop.

Spotted: Halle Berry on Jay Leno…
When Halle Berry dropped by “The Tonight Show” to talk about her work on the upcoming film “Cloud Atlas,” Jay Leno wanted to know if a moment in the film was perhaps inspired by a moment in her real life. Or maybe she channeled a real experience for her acting performance?
He was just asking if she’d ever smoked pot, as her character does in the film with co-star Tom Hanks. Berry insisted she was “not a pot smoker,” but Leno wasn’t so quick to let it go.
“Have you smoked pot with Tom Hanks?” he asked, trying a new angle.
“I smoked pot with Tom Hanks in this movie,” Berry responded plainly.
The ambitious “Cloud Atlas” chronicles a story across five centuries, set in six distinct timelines. Berry and Hanks play different characters in each setting, while the stories find innovative ways to connect. It is based on the 2004 book of the same name by David Mitchell. The film opens nationwide on Friday, October 26, 2012.

Jax and Jaid celebrate five years of fun living with mom, Garcelle Beauvais, at the park. Garcelle along with family and friends had a birthday party in the twins’ honor which consisted of potato sack races and an inflatable bouncer. Jax and Jaid turned five on a school day (October 18, 2012), so they celebrated with classmates in breaking cake together.
The weekend’s celebration was sort of an after party to the festivities that took place on the Kindergarteners’ birthdays. Garcelle recently expressed what a day of R&R is like with the twins:
“The kids don’t have to go to school, so they come into my bed until it gets a little too rough and then I want outta there. We’ll have breakfast and then we get in the pool. Sometimes we’re in the pool at 8:30 a.m.! And then just having a really great day with no ‘have to’s.’”
“We don’t have to go to a birthday party, we don’t have to go to karate. We’re so scheduled these days that we just forget to sometimes stay in our pajamas and do nothing. We need downtime,” explained the actress.
Jax and Jaid are Garcelle and ex-husband Mike Nilon’s only children together. Garcelle also has a son named Oliver by ex-husband Daniel Saunders. Photos: Instagram.

“That’s Right!” to a fan who said “Romney 2012!”
Meanwhile, fellow Hollywood actress in Hollywood Vivica Fox had a few words for Ms. Dash. Fox told The Grio this week while doing promo for her Lifetime show:
“I don’t know why she [Stacey Dash] had to do a photo shoot in a Baywatch red swimsuit with the boobs and the whole flag behind her. And she doesn’t have a job or something to promote right now. I just didn’t get it.”
Fox who is currently the host of Lifetime’s “Prank My Mom” and also stars in the upcoming sitcom “Mr. Box Office” continued:
“She’s entitled to her own opinion but it was just surprising that first of all she was a Republican, and that she did it the way that she did. Most politicians when you support them, you try to support them with class, you don’t need to do a swimsuit shoot.” Via TheYBF.

Michelle Obama: “Go out and Vote!”
As the music of Stevie Wonder pulsated through Racine Memorial Hall, Michelle Obama bounded onto the stage.
“You know what this room feels like? It feels like four more years in here!” the first lady exclaimed as the crowd of 2,500 roared its approval. The audience, including some who had waited overnight to see her, thundered again after Mrs. Obama noted that Racine is just 80 miles north of her hometown.
Until the election, she said, “coming here to Racine is the closest thing I’m going to get to be at home in Chicago.”
Her husband’s campaign is dispatching her to critical battleground states, high-profile appearances and big-money fundraisers. Her stepped-up schedule, packed with mostly campaign events these days, is a sign of the tight race between President Barack Obama and Republican Mitt Romney and the Obama campaign’s belief that the first lady is a valuable asset.
Mrs. Obama, whose favorability ratings are higher than her husband’s, can make the case for his re-election in a way no one else can, said Anita McBride, who served as Laura Bush’s chief of staff in the White House.
“The first lady is always good for a couple of important things,” McBride said. “One is the human side of the president, seeing who they are personally through the lens of the spouse, which is always unique.”
First ladies also can champion the idea that “my husband is fighting for you” in a way that even the president and vice president cannot, McBride said. Click here to continue reading…
Michelle Obama encourages early voting on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live…
While President Barack Obama embarked on his 48-hour campaign marathon extravaganza, First Lady Michelle Obama visited the late shows to support her husband.
The First Lady stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live Thursday night to chat about a range of topics, from Malia and Sasha’s Halloween costumes to what she would do if she had an hour to herself as a civilian. The answer to that particular question may surprise you.
“I would walk out of the door of the White House like a regular person…go to CVS, go in there, go shop,” she said. “I’d buy my toiletries. I’d pay money, I’d get a receipt. And then I’d go sit on a park bench and just watch people.”
Obama also urged viewers to vote early. During a pre-recorded skit, the First Lady wakes Kimmel up with a bullhorn to ensure he doesn’t oversleep on voting day. Via Celebuzz.
How Bill Clinton may have hurt the Obama campaign…
When the histories of the 2012 campaign are written, much will be made of Bill Clinton’s re-emergence. His convention speech may well have marked the finest moment of President Obama’s re-election campaign, and his ads on the president’s behalf were memorable.
But there is one crucial way in which the 42nd president may not have served the 44th quite as well. In these final weeks before the election, Mr. Clinton’s expert advice about how to beat Mitt Romney is starting to look suspect.
You may recall that last spring, just after Mr. Romney locked up the Republican nomination, Mr. Obama’s team abruptly switched its strategy for how to define him. Up to then, the White House had been portraying Mr. Romney much as George W. Bush had gone after John Kerry in 2004 – as inauthentic and inconstant, a soulless climber who would say anything to get the job.
But it was Mr. Clinton who forcefully argued to Mr. Obama’s aides that the campaign had it wrong. The best way to go after Mr. Romney, the former president said, was to publicly grant that he was the “severe conservative” he claimed to be, and then hang that unpopular ideology around his neck. Donald Trump makes President Obama $5 million offer for passport, college info…
As promised, Donald Trump made his “big announcement” this afternoon at 12 p.m. The business mogul revived the birther conspiracies by offering President Barack Obama $5 million to release his college application and passport records.
Trump starts off the less than 3 minute video by calling President Obama “the least transparent president in the history of this country.”
“I have a deal for the president. A deal that I don’t believe that he can refuse and I hope he doesn’t,” said Trump. “If Barack Obama opens up and gives his college records and applications, and if he gives his passport applications and records, I will give to a charity of his choice.”
He named off choices like inner city children in Chicago, the American Cancer Society and AIDS research, promising to write a check within an hour of the president releasing documents “to my satisfaction.” He’s given the President the deadline of October 31st at 5 p.m..
“A lot of people will be very, very happy to see this happen,” Trump continued. “Frankly, it’s a check that I very much want to write. I absolutely would be the most happy of all if I did, in fact, make this contribution through the president to these charities.”
Trump first appeared on Fox & Friends Monday morning to share that he would be making a big announcement regarding President Obama.
He told the hosts: “It’s very big. Bigger than anybody would know.” Click here to continue reading and watch the announcement below:
Twitter Users Donate Five Million LOLs to Donald Trump’s Announcement…
Donald Trump offered Barack Obama a $5 million check to any charity of choice in exchange for the public release of his college records and passport application.
Trump’s big announcement has been running the online rumor mill since Monday, when he alluded to “very big news” on Fox and Friends regarding President Obama. The reveal was scheduled to happen on Twitter, where users joked about what Trump’s big bombshell could be. The businessman tweeted a video Wednesday, asserting that all the predictions regarding his announcement have been totally incorrect.
“If he releases these records, it will end the question, and indeed the anger, of many Americans,” Trump stated in the press release.
Naturally, Twitter users responded to the announcement in parody. Many offered their own bargains to Trump, and others compared the video to a villainous scene out of a movie. Even Trump’s hair had something to say.
President Obama talks Donald Trump, debates, baseball on ‘Tonight Show with Jay Leno’…
What’s real estate mogul Donald Trump got against President Barack Obama? The president says it’s an old grudge that goes back — way, way back — to their childhood days in Kenya.
“We had constant run-ins on the soccer fields,” Obama told “Tonight Show” host Jay Leno during a tongue-in-cheek knock on Trump Wednesday night. “He wasn’t very good and resented it. When we finally moved to America, I thought it would be over.”
Trump became a leading voice in the “birther” movement, the discredited but very much alive conspiracy theory that Obama was actually born outside of the U.S. and isn’t constitutionally eligible to be president. Earlier Wednesday, Trump offered to donate $5 million to the president’s charity of choice if he would release his college and passport records.
Wisecracks aside, Obama told Leno that he has never actually met Trump.
When Leno asked Obama if he was glad the presidential debates are over, the president responded, “You know, I was sort of getting the hang of it.” Obama, whose performance in the first debate was widely panned, said he didn’t do an effective job of energetically outlining the contrast of visions between him and Republican Mitt Romney.
Part of the problem with a debate, Obama said, is that it’s not a natural way of communicating — having an argument with someone as you sit next to him.
“Well,” Leno said, “you’re married.”
Obama shot back: “But the difference is, with Michelle, I just concede every point.”Click here to continue reading…
Barbara Walters calls out Trump on birtherism: ‘You’re making a fool of yourself’
The View‘s Barbara Walters is a longtime friend of business tycoon and reality star Donald Trump, but she is fed up with his “birther” crusade against President Barack Obama.
During a panel discussion on her talk show, Walters criticized Trump’s widely panned offer of $5 million to the president to turn over his college application and passport materials, ostensibly to prove his U.S. citizenship.
Walters, directly addressing the camera, said: “Donald, you and I have known each other for many years and you know that I am your friend and I think you are a brilliant businessman and you are great on television and you have a fascinating personality. Donald, you’re making a fool of yourself. You’re not hurting Obama, you’re hurting Donald and that hurts me because you’re a decent man. Stop it. Get off it, Donald.”
Never one to not get the last word, Trump fired back at Walters via Twitter.
“Barbara, unfortunately you’ve missed the entire point of my announcement–you just don’t get it!” he tweeted.
He later said: “Walters will apologize to me just like she did when I was right about @Rosie. Besides, I get great ratings on The View.” Via TheGrio.
Colin Powell endorses Barack Obama again for president…
Former Secretary of State Colin Powell, a longtime Republican, is sticking with President Barack Obama in this year’s election.
He tells “CBS This Morning” he respects Mitt Romney but thinks he’s been vague on many issues.
Speaking of Obama, Powell said the president got the United States out of Iraq and has laid out a plan for leaving Afghanistan “and didn’t get us into any new wars.”
He praises Obama’s economic performance, saying that while difficult choices are ahead on taxes, spending and budgetary policies:
“steadily, I think we’ve begun to come out of the dive and we’re gaining altitude.” Powell, a retired general, also formerly was a White House chief of staff and chairman of the military’s Joint Chief of Staffs.
Powell says that he’s still a Republican. Via TheGrio.
McCain slams Colin Powell for Obama endorsement: ‘You disappoint us’…
Colin Powell has left John McCain embittered and angry with him for the second election in a row. In 2008, the former Secretary of State and decorated general surprised many pundits when he endorsed Barack Obama for the presidency instead of his old friend and fellow Republican, McCain.
This morning Powell reaffirmed his allegiance to the president, citing his leadership on issues of foreign policy and the fact that he “didn’t get us into any new wars.”
Just like four years ago, Republicans are far from pleased with Powell. McCain, while appearing on Brian Kilmeade’s radio program, said:
“General Powell, you disappoint us and you have harmed your legacy even further by defending what is clearly the most feckless foreign policy in my lifetime.”
Powell, on the other hand, feels uncomfortable with McCain’s candidate Mitt Romney:
“I’m not quite sure which Gov. Romney we would be getting with respect to foreign policy,” Powell said on CBS This Morning. “My concern … is that sometimes I don’t sense that he has thought through these issues as thoroughly as he should have.” Via TheGrio.
Romney surrogate John Sununu: ‘Colin Powell only endorsed Obama because he’s black!’
Mitt Romney surrogate John Sununu is dismissing former Secretary of State Colin Powell’s endorsement of Barack Obama over Mitt Romney as being all about race.
The former New Hamshire governor, who during the campaign has called the president “lazy,” following the first presidential debate, and said Obama needs to “learn how to be an American,” was asked by CNN’s Piers Morgan on Thursday to comment on the Powell endorsement, which was a repeat of the general’s stance in 2008, and whether it’s time for the four-star general to leave the Republican Party.
After praising “Powell’s former boss” George H.W. Bush for “endorsing Mitt Romney all along,” Sununu said:
“… frankly, when you take a look at Collin Powell, you have to wonder whether that’s an endorsement based on issues, or whether he’s got a slightly different reason for endorsing president Obama.”
Morgan asked what that reason might be, to which Sununu added: “Well, I think when you have somebody of your own race that you’re proud of being President of the United States, I applaud Colin for standing with him.”
Morgan did not take the opportunity to follow up, and ended the interview there. Via TheGrio.
President Barack Obama returns to Chicago for historic ballot casting…
President Barack Obama on Thursday became the first U.S. president to cast an early vote in person. He also became the first president (that we know of) to hear the words: “I need an I.D..”
The president flew home to Chicago’s Kenwood neighborhood to cast his early ballot. Democrats are encouraging their supporters to vote early, to avoid the long lines and potential voter I.D. hang-ups on Election Day.
From the Chicago Sun Times:
“I very much appreciate everybody here,” the president said at the early voting site. “It’s good to be home back in the neighborhood.”
But the most famous man in the world still had to prove who he was.
An early voting official looked at the president and smiled: “I need an I.D.”
That was met with laughter, including from Obama, who then joked about his license photo. Read the rest of the story at the Chicago Sun Times.
Celebs unite for Music Video in support of President Obama…
Ne-Yo, Natasha Bedingfield and other well known artists have come together to move this country forward. The singers have produced a song and video in support of re-electing President Obama.
Though the video is not sponsored by the official campaign, it still mirrors the incumbent’s 2012 campaign slogan — Forward. It’s a sequel to 2008′s celebrity-driven, “Yes We Can.” Like “Yes We Can,” “Forward” is executive produced by Fred Goldring,
“I have never been more hopeful about America,” Obama says.
The video shows everyday people, teachers, teenagers, businessmen, kids and grandmothers, coming together and rallying for Obama. They hold hands, cheer and fill the streets in belief that “we’re half way there.”
In 2008, Will.i.am, John Legend Scarlet Johanson and other notable celebrities produced a song, “Yes We Can,” raising support for the Democratic candidate and the video garnered more than 24 million views on YouTube. “Forward” takes a slightly different tone from “Yes We Can,” recognizing that the hardships still facing the country.
“You can’t give up on hope…We’re on a long hard road but we’ll travel it together,” Ne-Yo sings.

Nicole Kidman covers Harper’s Bazaar November 2012 issue, talks Tom Cruise and Keith Urban…
Throughout her glamorous career, Nicole Kidman has showed off her long stems countless times on the red carpet, at fashion events and on award show stages. Most recently, the 45-year-old Australian actress celebrated her gorgeous legs for a Terry Richardson photo shoot for Harper’s Bazaar.
From the race car-themed photoset to her interview with the magazine, Kidman held nothing back in the November issue, out on newsstands now.
“I don’t really celebrate fame because I get enough attention,” the actress, who lives in Nashville these days, told the magazine. “I’m willing to step aside. And when I work, I work. Wholeheartedly.”
Kidman also dished on what it was really like to be married to Tom Cruise, a period she now calls “fame by association.” “It was like, ‘I’m here and I’m clutching onto your arm, and it all feels a little overwhelming and really strange’ . . . and I was shy. Deeply shy. I didn’t feel comfortable at all. But I felt very comfortable at home,” she revealed to Harper’s Bazaar.
As for the current love of Kidman’s life, Keith Urban, the actress said he gave her a new lease on life. The two have been married for six years and are parents to Sunday Rose, 4, and Faith Margaret, almost 2.
“He just gave me confidence . . . through just being very kind to me and understanding me, opening me up to trying new things, my sexuality, those sorts of things,” she said, adding that her country superstar husband is “more like an ocean; he took me out.” Click here to continue reading…

Alicia Keys is launching a storytelling app for kids.
“The Journals of Mama Mae and LeeLee” is about a young New York City girl’s relationship with her wise grandmother. It will be released Thursday for $3.99 and is inspired by Keys’ relationship with her grandmother.
The interactive app is centered in LeeLee’s bedroom. It allows users to read books, play music and write in a journal.
Keys said after giving birth to her son two years ago she wanted to create learning tools for children.
She said in an interview Wednesday raising her son was part of the app’s inspiration because she has been introducing him to children’s TV shows and DVDs. The 14-time Grammy Award winner says she thought of creating a TV show or film but making an app for kids is “limitless.” Via TheGrio.Alicia Keys with a staff of Parents Magazine

Bruno Mars debuts ‘Unorthodox Jukebox’ album cover on Instagram…
Singer-songwriter Bruno Mars, who is of Puerto Rican and Filipino descent, posted his first Instagram photo Wednesday, using the photo-sharing service to debut the cover art for his forthcoming Unorthodox Jukebox album.
The cover, of course, quickly made its way onto other social platforms, but the artwork premiered on Instagram.
“Just like the music video for ‘Locked Out of Heaven’ it’s been his approach to go directly to his fans,” Thanh Nguyen, digital marketer at Mars’s label, Atlantic Records, tells Mashable. “There’s definitely a charm with spontaneity and as he mentioned in a recent interview, the Internet gives you that luxury.”
Other musicians have been finding fun ways to leverage Instagram, whether it be for crowdsourced contests or music videos. For example Bob Dylan, Rufus Wainwright, Ellie Goulding, Jason Mraz and Alicia Keys have all asked fans this year to submit Instagram photos for inclusion in their lyric videos.
“Locked Out of Heaven” (watch below) is the first single from his upcoming album, which drops Dec. 11. Via Mashable.
Bruno Mars‘ sisters feud with X-Factor USA…
Bruno’s 4 female siblings make up the girl band, The Lylas, an R&B singing group that also happens to have a major modeling deal in the Philippines. Translation: they’re super hot. The problem is, there’s another girl group calling themselves The Lylas, and they’re currently kicking ass on the “X Factor.” In fact, Simon recently chose them to compete on his team.
When Bruno’s sisters found out about the other band of Lylas, they were upset and trashed the “X Factor” Lylas all over the web, claiming the new Lylas hijacked their name.
Sources connected to “X Factor” tell TMZ the contestants were shocked by the accusations and insist they weren’t trying to hijack the name. They simply didn’t realize someone else had already laid claim to it.
Now, TMZ is told the “X Factor” girls are getting ready to wave the white flag with one source saying they’re already brainstorming ideas for a new name.
Kimberly Locke talks American Idol and judges…
Former American Idol contestant Kimberley Locke, who is of Caucasian and African-American descent, broke out in 2003 during the FOX series’ second season — and she says the only reason why had been so successful was strictly due to the judges at the time: Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul and Randy Jackson.
“That panel of judges — they were perfect. Hands down!” Locke gushed to Celebuzz during an exclusive interview in our Hollywood studio. “They were the best!”
“That chemistry comes around ever so often once in a lifetime and you can’t recreate it,” she continued. “You just can’t”
Since Locke’s season, the Idol panel has seen many changes. As of late, pop diva Mariah Carey, rapper Nicki Minaj and country crooner Keith Urban have joined Jackson as the singing competition’s latest judges.
What does Locke think about the change? ”American Idol is celebrity-driven,” she said of the revamp. “This is just part of the hype.”
“This is the American Idol formula and they do it so well,” Locke continued to explain, referring to the recent news that Carey and Minaj have been feuding offscreen. Click here to continue reading…

‘The Face’ teasers show Naomi Campbell, Coco Rocha & Karolina Kurkova engaging in ‘drama’…
Not a fan of the “America’s Next Top Model” revamp, but still looking to get your model-themed reality television fix? No worries, the premiere of “The Face” is just around the corner. Well, not really — the show doesn’t actually premiere until February, but Oxygen has just released some teasers to hold you over.
If you’re not familiar with the forthcoming series, the premise of the show is very similar to “The Voice” except, instead of famous musicians coaching rival singing teams, iconic fashion models will handpick teams of aspiring models, coach them and pit them against models on the other teams until one is chosen as “the face.”
(We really hope they were able to factor in spinning chairs and oversized, flashing buttons as seamlessly as the music version did.) The team leaders are Naomi Campbell, Karolina Kurkova and Coco Rocha, so we figure at least two of them will play nice.
As far as we can tell from the minute-long teaser, the drama doesn’t seem entirely — what’s the word we’re looking for? — organic. In one scene, Naomi traipses over to Karolina and declares, “I’m very disappointed in your choice, Karolina. All I’m going to tell you is that it’s game on from now on.” We’ll leave it up to you to decide if the brouhaha is convincing though. Click here to continue reading and watch the video below…

Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber have been dating for more than a year, but there’s reportedly trouble in paradise for the teen power couple. According to RadarOnline, the couple are on the verge of breaking up all the time, as “jealousy is killing the relationship.”
A source tells the website that both stars have jealous tendencies that cause many petty arguments. Despite the fighting, Bieber is still head over heels for Gomez, 20, as she’s his first love and “he can’t even imagine being without her.”
In fact, Bieber has been opening up about his love for Gomez more than ever before.
“I never make [Selena] separate from me because I don’t want her to ever feel like I’m ashamed of her. Because I feel like a lot of guys do that, especially in the business. They don’t want to be seen with the girl, so they’ll make them ride in separate cars. They’ll do that ‘get away’ stuff. [Selena and I] get away where … you know … getting away together,” he explained to Oprah Winfrey in a preview of his “Oprah’s Next Chapter” interview.
The same can’t be said for Gomez. RadarOnline’s sources claim the former “Wizards of Waverly Place” star is now staying with Bieber only because he is “good for her brand.”
According to the website’s insider source, staying in the relationship is a calculated career move for Gomez, who is being encouraged by her team to stay with Bieber
“Selena and Justin’s relationship isn’t the fairytale romance they’d like their fans to believe it is,” a friend of the couple told the website. “Justin’s heart is with Selena because she’s his first true love, but Selena is pretty much just riding out the relationship because she knows he’s good for her image.”Click here to continue reading…

Kim Kardashian is just like us: She eats Subway, too!
Wearing a leather peplum top, gray jeans and heels, the reality star stopped by the sandwich chain in Miami with her bodyguard. Then we went to Florence and stayed in this incredible castle, saw Michelangelo’s David, and shopped around town. We saw all the sights, visited some beautiful churches and all the famous monuments.”

Spotted: Sofia Vergara looking stunning in barely-there minidress…
Sofia Vergara turned every head in the crowd Wednesday night at an event for artist Domingo Zapata’s collection preview, where she showed up in a curve-hugging, barely-there minidress.
Though the dress was super-tiny, Vergara, 40, still managed to leave a little imagination to the eye by covering up in black tights and sheer sleeves. Muy caliente, indeed.
Vergara’s red carpet look was a stark contrast to the looks she’s been wearing for Modern Family, on which her character, Gloria, is very pregnant. It was also one of her sexiest looks to date, adding to her seemingly never-ending collection of red-hot ensembles. Via Celebuzz.

Ice-T says the reasons his character has lasted 13 seasons on the show is because “Detective Fin is the guy with a different type of sensibility.”
The 54-year-old rapper actor also said he not worried about losing his “street credibility,” after appearing as a TV cop for so many years. “Street credibility comes when your like 18 to 25,” he said during an interview with theGrio‘s Chris Witherspoon.
“You either get your stripes or you don’t. You can’t ever lose it, you dig what I’m saying? My credibility transferred over to me being a success. At some point you have to evolve. You have to say ‘okay I’ve proven that I can be the toughest guy on the block now let me show you I can be the toughest guy in the world.’”
Ice-T is also the star of E!’s reality show Ice Loves Coco, which follows he and his wife Coco as navigate Hollywood life. Season 3 premieres October 28.
Coco is is often heavily scrutinized by the media for risqué photos of her that often surface. However Ice-T stands by his wife, and says he thinks she’s a great role model.
“She’s [Coco] 33, still sexy, swimsuit model, but she’s married. So see, there’s another dynamic here. It’s not like she’s not the model that’s running from athlete to athlete, jumpin around doin thangs. She’s been married for 12 years, and still got that sexy thang goin.”
“I think she’s a great role model, not just because she is a great business woman, and making moves, but because she’s got a man and she’s keepin her man, and i’m not an easy dude. I’m not a pushover.”
Coco Austin goes for some Las Vegas style in a VERY tight patterned dress ahead of Peepshow debut…
She’s getting ready for a temporary relocation to Las Vegas ahead of her debut in adult dance production Peepshow. But while Coco Austin has yet to kick off the show, the 33-year-old is sure to fit in in Sin City thanks to her fashion choices.
Ice-T’s wife showed off her curvaceous figure in a patterned long-sleeved dress which enhanced her world-famous assets as she left the NBC studios in New York. “This is actually what I have been building up to my entire life. I have been a dancer my whole childhood, and I’m also a performer, so I think this is the next stage in my life.”
And while the role does involve some nudity, Coco said she didn’t find any hesitation from her husband, rapper Ice-T.
She added to the Las Vegas Sun: ‘He was the first supporter. Without his support, I wouldn’t have gone to Vegas at all because I was kind of iffy in the beginning.”
He said: “If I was offered a Vegas show, I would do it. This is right up your alley. You love to show off your body, you like to perform, and you like to dance. You need to go for it.” And then after that, he gave me a kiss.”
As well as her upcoming role in Peepshow, Coco is also gearing up for the premiere of season 3 of her reality show, Ice Loves Coco. The new series kicks off in America on October 28th on E!. Via DailyMail.

Naomi Campbell‘s Russian billionaire boyfriend builds her a futuristic house that looks like a spaceship…
Naomi Campbell‘s Russian billionaire boyfriend is so keen to have his loved one close to him, that he has built her a house in Moscow. And not just any house. The building located just outside the Russian city features a futuristic style, and many believe it looks like a spaceship.
The unusual house, which is dubbed Capital Hill, looks like it could be a tool to take over the universe, both on the exterior and the interior. Russian entrepreneur Vladislav Doronin has been dating the British supermodel since 2008, and reportedly plans to live in the mansion after they get married.
With an estimated £1.5billion fortune, 46-year-old property tycoon has a penchant for high-living and beautiful women that has earned him the nickname of Moscow’s Donald Trump.
According to Gizmodo, the new futuristic house is designed by renowned architect Zaha Hadid, who specialises in ecostyle buildings and was also the brains behind famous buildings including the opera house in Guangzhou and the Olympics Aquatics Center in London.
It features gigantic glass panels, smooth curves and extremely tall ceilings. The 2,650 square meter house will have many luxuries, including a Finnish spa in the basement, a Turkish bath and a Russian bath where the 42-year-old supermodel can pamper herself.
Of course, it also has its own gym and indoor swimming pool that can reportedly turn into a dance floor should the couple want to entertain guests in the evenings. Two large white towers are situated on top of the building, about 20 meters above the ground, which are said to be the couple’s bedroom.
The house that resembles something out of TV’s Star Trek is surrounded by a pine forest, so the lovebirds will be ensured some privacy. It’s not the first time Campbell’s lover has built her a house. Last year, he bought her a vacation house in Turkey which looked just as unusual as the new mansion.
And Doronin clearly has a penchant for odd looking buildings. The vacation home is situated on one of Turkish islands, has 25 rooms and is shaped like an Egyptian eye. Is Kim Kardashian wearing an engagement ring?
Diamonds are a girl’s best friend! Just ask Kim Kardashian.
The reality TV star was spotted wearing a huge sparkler on her pinky finger while filming her reality TV show in Miami on Wednesday. While eager observers speculated that it might be a secret engagement ring, sources tell E! News that the pair are not engaged.
Of course, there has been plenty of talk about West, 35, popping the question, thanks to Ryan Seacrest.
The Keeping Up With The Kardashians producer has hinted Kim might be getting more than she bargained for when Kanye whisked her off to Rome on a romantic break with the intent of celebrating her 32nd birthday on Sunday.
Discussing whether there is any truth to the rumors that Kim is ‘demanding an engagement ring’ on his KIIS radio show last week, Ryan told his co-host Ellen K:
‘I think we could definitely see an update on this story on Monday.’
But there was no announcement from the pair and insiders insist he hasn’t proposed just yet.
Twice-married Kim – who is still in the process of divorcing Kris Humphries – has made no secret of wanting to settle down and start a family, and recently confessed she had finally found her match in Kanye. View additional photos here...Is this an engagement ring?

Zoe Saldana transforms into Nina Simone…
The folks behind the upcoming Nina Simone biopic, Nina, are moving forward with their leading lady pick, despite the controversy surrounding their choice.
On Friday, onlookers got a glimpse at the film’s star, Zoe Saldana, who debuted her big screen makeover during some downtime on set in Los Angeles. Though she had yet to change into costume, Saldana, 34, channeled the late singer with a little help from some facial prosthetics, fake teeth and an afro wig.
Writer/director Cynthia Mort’s decision to cast Saldana as Simone has been a point of contention for pop culture critics ever since it was announced this summer.A number of bloggers have slammed the filmmaker’s pick, asserting that Saldana is too light-skinned for the part, and that the casting choice is another example of Hollywood’s tendency to whitewash African American history.
“When is it going to be O.K. to not be the delicate looking ideal of what the media considers blackness to be?” blogger Tiffani Jones of Coffee Rhetoric wrote (via The New York Times), linking to a petition on Change.org, whose mission is to convince filmmakers to “replace Zoe Saldana with an actress who actually looks like Nina Simone. Roger Ebert‘s review of ‘Cloud Atlas’…
Even as I was watching “Cloud Atlas” the first time, I knew I would need to see it again. Now that I’ve seen it the second time, I know I’d like to see it a third time — but I no longer believe repeated viewings will solve anything. To borrow Churchill’s description of Russia, “it is a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma.” It fascinates in the moment. It’s getting from one moment to the next that is tricky.
Surely this is one of the most ambitious films ever made. The little world of film criticism has been alive with interpretations of it, which propose to explain something that lies outside explanation. Any explanation of a work of art must be found in it, not taken to it.
As a film teacher, I was always being told by students that a film by David Lynch, say, or Warner Herzog, was “a retelling of the life of Christ, say, or ‘Moby Dick.’ ” My standard reply was: Maybe it’s simply the telling of itself.
Yet “Cloud Atlas” cries out for an explanation, and surely you’ve noticed that I’ve been tap-dancing around one. I could tell you that it relates six stories taking place between the years 1849 and 2346. I could tell you that the same actors appear in different roles, playing characters of different races, genders and ages.
Some are not even human, but fabricants. I could tell you that the acting and makeup are so effective that often I had no idea if I was looking at Tom Hanks, Halle Berry or Jim Broadbent. I could tell you that, and what help is it? Click here to continue reading…
Halle Berry delights in her multi-racial roles in ‘Cloud Atlas’
Few people exude beauty and talent quite like Halle Berry, an actress who has surpassed most cultural barriers in contemporary society through her work.
Yet in her latest big screen project, Cloud Atlas, the actress goes beyond the norm in a gender-bending, race-defying performance that imagines her as both man and woman – black, white and brown – in a dramatic interpretation of the cycles of humanity.
In the film, hitting theaters Friday, Berry embodies six different characters of multiple ethnicities to depict the story of eternal life throughout the ages. For the Academy Award-winning actress, it was a chance to break anew; to show the range of her façade; and to tackle roles she’s never been able to play in the past, most significantly that of a Jewish white woman named Jocasta Ayrs.
“To tell you the story, I was in a costume fitting with [director] Tom Tykwer trying to bring Jocasta to life, and he was bringing out one costume after the next to try them on,”the 46-year-old tells theGrio at a press junket in Los Angeles.
“He was like, ‘Oh, you look so beautiful, you must have worn dresses like this from 1932 before.’ And I just looked at him and I said, ‘You think I have, really? You think so? As an actor, you think I’ve done this before?’”
She continues, “All the sudden, he goes, ‘Oh you’re black; you’re not really white. You wouldn’t have been this kind of woman in 1935 ever, right?’” Visit TheGrio to continue reading…
