Mariah Carey Wins Icon Award At BMI Urban Music Awards…
Mariah Carey was late to the BMI Urban Music Awards, where she was the guest of honor, but that didn’t stop other artists from literally singing her praises. Fantasia Barrino and Eric Benet were among those who serenaded the star with her own hits. Benet performed “One Sweet Day” and the former “American Idol” sang “Hero” during the private ceremony at the Saban Theatre, where writers, producers and publishers of the year’s top urban hits were recognized Friday.
Barrino stepped off stage and stood right in front of Carey in the audience’s front row as she wailed the final words of the song. When she finished, they embraced. BMI chief Del Bryant presented Carey with the music-rights organization’s Icon Award for her outstanding songwriting that has resulted in 18 No. 1 singles and more than 200 million albums sold.
Bryant called her “an unparalleled musical superstar” and “the greatest singer in history.”Click here to read more…

International Literacy Day: Giving All Kids a Chance…
Saturday was International Literacy Day. With more than four billion literate people in the world you might think we’ve prevailed in the fight for global literacy. But you’d be wrong. Today, one-third of the world’s population is illiterate, and entire regions are suffering from severe book famine.
Publishers and authors have the ability to help solve one the world’s most enduring problems for free, just by saying a few magic words. For as long as we’ve been printing books, we’ve lived with a terrible inequity in access to the world’s knowledge.
As soon as you decide to apply ink to paper, you set in motion a wonderful, yet costly, chain of events: trees need to fall, presses need to run, trucks need to motor, shelves need to be stocked, and container ships need to steam.
In the developed world Adam Smith’s invisible hand runs much of this publishing machinery without anyone thinking too much about it. Books flow in one direction, money flows in the other, and by and large, readers can access the books they need and want. Click here to continue reading…
Marriage And Politics: Can belonging to different political parties work?
To have a long and happy marriage, experts say couples should have similar values on money, family and religion. But what happens when you disagree on politics?
As Americans gear up for election season, couples who disagree about politics may get frustrated with each other — and even face challenges in their marriages. Wall Street Journal columnist Elizabeth Bernstein says that she’s seen couples deal with differing political views in a variety of ways, including by skirting the issue entirely.
“I’ve talked to some couples who say ‘We’re married for decades and we just refuse to talk politics,” she told The News Hub on WSJLive.
However couples choose to deal with their opposing political opinions, Bernstein says that the most important thing they can do is simply accept the other person’s point of view. Read more here…
‘Cloud Atlas’ Reviews: At Toronto Film Festival Debut…
“Eye-rollingly glib,” wrote Kevin Jagernauth for Indiewire’s blog The Playlist.
“‘Cloud Atlas’ is one of my very favorite films this year,” exclaimed HitFix critic Drew McWeeny.
So which is it? Andy and Lana Wachowski and Tom Tykwer debuted their adaptation “Cloud Atlas” at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sunday night, and depending on whom you chose to believe, the film is either a beautiful masterpiece or an epic failure.
“Perhaps most disappointing of all with ‘Cloud Atlas,’ is how dully unimaginative the film really is,” noted Jagernauth. The film, based on David Mitchell’s 2004 novel, is the most expensive independently financed feature of all time. (Warner Bros. picked up a portion of the budget and is handling domestic distribution.) As Lana Wachowski noted in a recent New Yorker profile.” Click here to continue reading…
Venus Williams Is Dating Cuban Model Elio Pis…
Venus has a hot new man! After dropping out of last year’s U.S. Open and announcing she was suffering from Sjögren’s Syndrome, a happy and healthy Venus Williams made a triumphant return to the New York Grand Slam tournament last week with her new boyfriend at her side. The tennis champ, 32, has been dating Cuban model Elio Alberto Pis, 24, for several months, PEOPLE has learned.
And it’s been a love match on and off the court. The couple were seen holding hands and sweetly kissing each other while walking through the corridors of Arthur Ashe Stadium. During all of her matches, Pis sat courtside with Williams’s friends and family, cheering the two-time U.S. Open winner. Her return was cut short, though. Williams lost to Germany’s Angelique Kerber in the second round on Aug. 30, and she was eliminated from the doubles competition with younger sister Serena on Sept. 3.
With Williams set to present her clothing line, EleVen, during New York Fashion Week, expect to see more of Pis. Click here to read more…
Coldplay, Jay-Z and Rihanna close out Paralympics with a bang…
The Paralympic Closing Ceremony rocked to the sounds of Coldplay tonight as Britain’s golden summer of sport drew to a close in the Olympic Stadium. The band provided the stirring soundtrack to a spectacular show, which marked the glittering end to 12 days of Paralympic competition in London.
And lead singer Chris Martin was joined on stage by Rihanna to perform their collaborative hit ‘Princess of China’ while Jay-Z also took the stage. The evening ended with another spectacular fireworks display – the fourth the Olympic Park has witnessed in the last two months.
Proceedings roared into life as hundreds of ‘Mad Max-style’ characters marched into the arena to act out a fantasy battle scene in front of 80,000 captivated spectators. The first act of the show featured war hero Captain Luke Sinnott, who lost his legs and an arm in a blast on the battlefields of Helmand, climbing a flagpole and proudly unfurling the Union Flag.
It was the first of many on display, as all the participating nations were paraded to a backdrop of coloured smoke flares and dancers wowed the crowd. And there was an emotional moment at the climax of the evening, when British athletes Ellie Simmonds and Jonnie Peacock extinguished the Olympic flame. Chad Johnson refuses to sign divorce papers…
Chad Johnson DESPERATELY wants to stay married to his estranged wife Evelyn Lozada, so much so he’s refusing to sign any divorce docs, this according to sources close to the couple.
As TMZ first reported, Evelyn filed for divorce three days after Chad allegedly head-butted her during an argument. The incident that led to his arrest and Evelyn receiving stitches. Sources close to Chad say he won’t sign the docs or partake in any divorce proceedings because he doesn’t want to get a divorce.
We’re told Chad still believes he can win Evelyn back … as evidenced by the fact he recently tattooed her face on his leg. But Chad’s plan isn’t exactly bulletproof — under Florida law (where Evelyn filed the docs) the divorce can still be finalized with a judge’s approval.
A few fans asked Chad about the impeding divorce to which he responded:
Divorce? Child please… that’s my WIFE RT @TeeSplash101: I really want to know why @ochocinco tatted Evelyn’s face on his leg post divorce
I dont give a flying pretzel in skittle rainbow hell what she filed for… RT @CCHx3REH: I thought she filed for divorce tho?
Sources tell us Evelyn is hellbent on making this divorce happen and nothing Chad does will get her back. We’re told she’s ready to move on and rebuild her life. Calls to both parties’ lawyers were not returned via TMZ.

Heidi Klum admits to affair with bodyguard…
Heidi Klum has finally come clean about her reported relationship with bodyguard Martin Kristen. In an episode of “Katie” that aired Wednesday, the supermodel acknowledged to host Katie Couric that she is dating Kristen — but she stopped short of calling it a relationship.
“I don’t even know if I can call it that, you know? It just started so I don’t know. I don’t know where it’s gonna go,” Klum said.
“I’ve known him for four years and he’s been with our family for the last four years,” Klum continued. “He’s cared for our entire family, mostly for our four children, helped us tremendously… I trust him with my children’s life. He’s a great man, you know, and we just got to know each other from a completely different side.”
Rumors of their relationship surfaced late last month when Klum was photographed getting close to Kristen while on vacation with her family in Sardinia. Seal fueled speculation by telling TMZ that he wished his ex had waited until they were separated before she decided to “fornicate with the help.”
His publicist later clarified that Seal did not intend to imply that Klum had cheated on him; rather, he meant that their divorce is not yet finalized so the couple is still legally married. Click here to continue reading…

Girlfriend Confidential: LA…
Girlfriend Confidential: LA” dusts off the “Sex and the City” template, again, with a reality show about four sassy gals who hang around in the big city looking glam and talking sex. What makes this unique is the racial diversity of the cast.
The real goal of “Girlfriend Confidential” is building a franchise, like the “Real Housewives.” Production on a New York edition is already under way, and the premise seems sound enough: that there will always be viewers who want to watch ambitious, attractive women in their late 20s battle to make their mark.
The four here are Eva Marcille, who won “America’s Next Top Model”; Denyce Lawton, who played four seasons on “Tyler Perry’s House of Payne”; Kelly Marie Dunn, who used to be Lady Gaga’s road manager and now runs her own talent agency; and Nikki Chu, an interior designer who is branching out into products like a line of shoes.
We’ve met women like them before, and at the risk of stereotyping, it won’t surprise any viewer to learn they often seem neurotic and high-strung. So the premiere episode, logically enough, sets out to show us why.
Girlfriend Confidential airs every Monday at 11pm on Oxygen. Click here to read more…

Bill Bellamy: Crazy, Sexy, Dirty…
Bill Bellamy – the popular comedian, actor and television host who shot to limelight on HBO’s Russell Simmons’ Def Comedy Jam, where he is credited for creating or uttering before a televised audience, the phrase “booty call” (described as a late night call to a potential paramour with the intention of meeting strictly for sex), is at it again.
He takes to the stage for this hilariously raunchy, wild stand-up special that lives up to its title ‘Crazy, Sexy, Dirty’ with observations and humor that are definitely not for the entire family.

VOTE or CRY: Why Romney’s plan is detrimental to Africans in the Diaspora…
On the final night of the Democratic National Convention, President Barack Obama cautioned the America public about the foreign policy plan Republican candidates Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan wish to implement:
“My opponent and his running mate are new to foreign policy, but from all that we’ve seen and heard, they want to take us back to…a Cold War mind warp.”
Here, the president refers to a foreign policy initiative so deeply entrenched in the conservative values of the Ronald Reagan era, it may as well be implemented by the late president’s hologram.
And though the Romney-Ryan campaign promises a resurgence in the United States’ global dominance that would result in “an American century,” the promise of this exceptionalism would negatively impact the African diaspora.
Like his hero (President Reagan), whose policies crippled Black America, sponsored invasions in Latin America and the Caribbean, and embraced apartheid South Africa, candidate Romney’s vision for the U.S. leading the world would have the Africans in the Diaspora following in woeful submission. J.C. Penney to give FREE haircuts to kids…
J.C. Penney said it will be offering haircuts to children for free starting in November after a trial program last month resulted in 1.6 million crops. Kids in kindergarten through sixth grade will be eligible for free cuts every Sunday starting Nov. 4, the chain wrote in an emailed newsletter to customers.
The struggling retailer could use the influx of potential customers. J.C. Penney has been cycling through revamp strategies after several quarters of dismal earnings reports and a stock price less than half what it was five years ago.
Last summer, the company lured Apple, Inc.‘s retail chief, Ron Johnson, to take over as chief executive. The chain announced a new pricing system this winter that replaced its routine sales blowouts with everyday low prices — but has since brought back clearance events after customers rejected the changes. Evelyn Lozada called “a thug” on Iyanla Vanzant’s ‘Fix My Life’…
On Iyanla Vanzant’s season premiere of “Fix My Life,” the well known life coach calls Evelyn Lozada a “thug among women” as she worked to give Evelyn the brutal truth about herself before attempting to make the “Basketball Wives” star a better person.
“Fix My Life” is a brand new series on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN, and it features the most talked about woman on reality television right now: Evelyn Lozada. The show premiered on Sunday, September 15 with the conclusion airing on September 22,
“You’ve been rewarded for being a thug among women, it’s gonna cost you,” Vanzant tells Evelyn in the preview. How did you get the stitches in your forehead and living in a hotel?” asks Vanzant, as tears roll down Evelyn’s face.
The therapy session tackles the touchy subject of Evelyn Lozada and Chad Ochocinco. As most people know, Evelyn was allegedly the victim of domestic abuse in August when Chad reportedly head-butted Evelyn, resulting in Lozada’s six stitches on the forehead. Click here to continue reading…
Writer/Director David O. Russell returns to comedy…
While David O. Russell’s foray into conventional drama with The Fighter was a richly satisfying knockout, it’s a joy to see him back in the off-kilter comedy realm with the wonderful Silver Linings Playbook.
Adapted by Russell from Matthew Quick’s well-received 2008 novel, the comedy in many ways recalls the director’s early brush with a screwy family, Flirting With Disaster. And Pat Solatano (Cooper) is a similarly driven central character to the one played by Ben Stiller in that 1996 film, just quite a bit more unstable. There’s a degree of dysfunction in almost all the characters here, but this comes off as the affectionately observed foibles of real people, not calculated movie eccentricities.
A longtime sufferer of undiagnosed bipolar disorder, former high school teacher Pat has spent eight months in a psychiatric facility on a plea bargain after a violent incident when he surprised his wife Nikki (Brea Bee) having sex with their co-worker. Released into the care of his parents, Pat Sr. (Robert De Niro) and Dolores (Jacki Weaver), he is determined to put his newfound hospital wisdom into practice. Click here to continue reading…

The Bosh Family – an interethnic family at best…
NBA player Chris Bosh, his wife Adrienne, and children Trinity and Jackson were in attendance for the Spring 2013 fashion show in New York City on Saturday, September 8, 2012. Jackson, the youngest of the bunch, was fascinated by all of the events surrounding him. He, along with big sister and dad, were all sporting Lacoste shirts.
Chris recently talked about teammate Dwyane Wade’s new book ‘A Father First’ during an ice cream event. “I cracked it open right away. It’s very good. It’s really a lot about his life, about him as a kid, and then what he’s gone through for his own kids,” said Bosh.
The Miami ‘Heat’ player also talked about his relationship with his 3-year-old daughter Trinity’s mother saying, “You know, it is what it is. Everyone struggles, and eventually you figure it out. It’s all about Trinity.”
Bosh told the media that he and his ex-girlfriend Allison Mathis are working through their child custody issues, and Trinity spends a lot of time him via BCK.
Yoko Ono releases ‘OnoMix’…
On September 25, Yoko Ono will be releasing a new mix cd titled ONOMIX. Yoko Ono has long been credited with igniting the punk-rock fire years before its official explosion, and her work continues to be relevant and generation-inspiring decades later.
For the past 10 years, Ono has been meticulously reinventing select songs from her vast catalog for 21st-century dance floors, giving the groundbreaking pop culture icon a greater platform and visibility of which many contemporaries and present-day contenders can be envious.
Since first bursting onto the art and music worlds with her compelling, forward-thinking works, Ono has been a chameleon, ingeniously transforming herself from revolutionary outsider artist and punk rock progenitor to global peace ambassador, treasured pop culture icon, and dance/electronic music’s reigning matriarch.

Lana Del Rey is British GQ’s ‘Woman of the Year’…
Lana Del Rey claimed the title of British GQ’s “Woman of the Year” and got naked for the cover of the risque issue. Wearing nothing but diamond and sapphire jewelry and bright red lipstick, Del Rey poses nude for the cover of British GQ’s “15th Annual Men of the Year Awards Special Issue.”
The magazine has been criticized for sexism in the wake of the release. Tinie Tempah, Robbie Williams, Mad Men actor John Slattery and James Corden each appear clothed on alternate covers. Del Rey, the sole female, is the only one who appears disrobed.
“Objectification is complicated—I don’t have a problem with a naked lady here and there per se, but when ALL YOUR LADIES ARE NAKED, those of us ladies with clothes on start to wonder why you even keep us around,” wrote Jezebel’s Lindy West. “Like, you’re just going to have one lady…and she has to be naked?”
While Del Rey’s nude British GQ photo shoot will surely attract viewers (and critics), her winning “Woman of the Year” has a lot more to do with her rocketing career than it does with her naked body. Click here to continue reading…

Virginia lawmaker: “Children with disabilities are God’s punishment to women who previously had abortions”…
On Thursday, Virginia State Delegate Bob Marshall (R) spoke at a press conference against state funding for Planned Parenthood. He blasted the organization for supporting a women’s right to choose, saying that God punishes women who have had abortions by giving them disabled children:
“The number of children who are born subsequent to a first abortion with handicaps has increased dramatically. Why? Because when you abort the first born of any, nature takes its vengeance on the subsequent children,” said Marshall, a Republican.
“In the Old Testament, the first born of every being, animal and man, was dedicated to the Lord. There’s a special punishment Christians would suggest.”
Marshall is also fighting against health care reform, saying that “Obamacare” is trying to take “your soul.”

Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom’s struggle with fertility…
Khloe and Lamar have been open about their desire to have children together, but it hasn’t happened yet for the couple. With her sister Kourtney expecting a second child on the show — though she’s since had her second child off-camera — it’s become more and more difficult for Khloe. And so, on this week’s episode of “Keeping Up with the Kardashians,” she agreed to go with her sister Kim to a fertility specialist.
Kim is considering freezing her eggs, and got nothing but good news from the doctor. She may be in her 30s now, he told her, but everything is just fine. The news wasn’t as good for Khloe, and it went a long way towards explaining why she hasn’t been able to get pregnant.
According to the doctor, Khloe didn’t ovulate in the most recent month, and no ovulation means no chance of conception. The Stir wrote that they admired Khloe for being so open with this personal and painful problem in her life, and they hoped that her fertility issues would be treatable. Khloe Kardashian: “‘I Never Knew All The Difficulties’ In Trying To Conceive’…
Much attention has been paid to Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick’s little bundle of joy, Penelope Scotland. But as we learned on Sunday’s episode of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” Khloe Kardashian and husband Lamar Odom are looking to expand their family too.
Khloe opened up about trying to conceive a child when she and sisters Kourtney, 33, and Kim, 31, appeared on “Good Morning America” Thursday to celebrate the anniversary of their Kardashian Kollection fashion line:
“I never knew all the difficulties with getting pregnant,” Khloe, 28, revealed on “GMA.” “I think that my mom has so many kids, and Kourtney pops them out like a PEZ dispenser, so you think it’s, like, so easy. You realize it’s not as easy as you might think.”
“It was really hard for me to show what I was going through,” Khloe continued. “I feel like I’m helping a lot of people, but I’m still figuring it out for myself.” Click here to continue reading…
Boris Kodjoe continues in Resident Evil installment: Resident Evil: Retribution…
Resident Evil is a survival horror video game developed and published by Capcom. The game is the seventh installment in the Resident Evil survival horror series, and was initially released on March 12, 2009 in North America and Europe for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
The wildly successful film franchise adaptation that has grossed nearly $700 million worldwide to date returns in its highly anticipated fifth installment, RESIDENT EVIL: RETRIBUTION, written and directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, in state-of-the art 3D.
The Umbrella Corporation’s deadly T-virus continues to ravage the Earth, transforming the global population into legions of the flesh eating Undead. The human race’s last and only hope, ALICE (Milla Jovovich), awakens in the heart of Umbrella’s most clandestine operations facility and unveils more of her mysterious past as she delves further into the complex. Without a safe haven, Alice continues to hunt those responsible for the outbreak; a chase that takes her from Tokyo to New York, Washington, D.C. and Moscow, culminating in a mind-blowing revelation that will force her to rethink everything that she once thought to be true.
Aided by new-found allies and familiar friends, Alice must fight to survive long enough to escape a hostile world on the brink of oblivion. The countdown has begun.
Boris Kodjoe is also back as Luther West, a strong, confident ex-pro athlete discovered barricaded inside a prison with a small group of survivors in Resident Evil: Afterlife. Luther and Alice shared an immediate connection, forging an allegiance based on mutual respect.
During their escape from the prison, Luther was attacked by zombies and is presumed dead by Alice and the others.
“They had an amazing partnership in the last movie,” the actor says. “But she believes that he’s gone and it’s a nice surprise for her to find out he’s not.
When they meet again, there’s obvious relief on both sides, as well as excitement that they are going to embark on a new adventure.”
He may be one of the most recognizable actors working today, but Boris Kodjoe’s life started as far from Hollywood as humanly possible. Raised in a small town in Germany, the 6’2″ star moved to America in his late teens knowing only a few words of English. But with his dazzling smile and killer bod, which is put to good use in the upcoming Resident Evil: Retribution, it was only a matter of time before the world took notice…
Resident Evil 5 released in the U.S. on Friday.

Frederick Douglass statue to be moved to the U.S. Capitol…
The U.S. House of Representatives on Monday night approved a resolution that will move the bust of Frederick Douglas to the Capitol, making him only the third African-American to be so honored. The other two: Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and Sojourner Truth. There are 180 busts on display at the Capitol.
The bill, H.R. 6336, was sponsored by Republican congressman Dan Lundgren of California, and cosponsored by Democrat Eleanor Holmes Norton, who represents the District of Columbia. A similar resolution was introduced in June by Democratic New York Sen. Chuck Schumer.
On Monday, Norton hailed the introduction of the bill, writing on her House website:
“I know that residents are as gratified as I am to see the House considering a bill allowing the District’s Frederick Douglass statue to be moved into the U.S. Capitol,” Norton said. “The city was so intent on having the Douglass statue here that it commissioned the statue and put it on display at One Judiciary Square. The statue would be placed alongside statues of other distinguished Americans and will be only the third statue or bust of an African American in the Capitol. This placement will be a fitting tribute to one of the nation’s most important human rights heroes.” Click here to continue reading…

How Michelle & Barack Obama‘s love helped restore faith in marriage…
Raju Punjabi writes:
“As an independent twentysomething, I want a marriage like the Obamas’ or I don’t want one at all. I want love to be comfortable yet scintillating and constantly evolving.
Even if life’s not full of adrenaline-pumping surprises, I still crave a little adventure. And the butterflies should never die, just perhaps calm down a bit. And just when you think I’ve gotten outlandish with my demands… I want to have all of these things with my best friend.”
“I believe it exists. Back in 2007, when I really started paying attention to the black man running for president and his elegant, radiant partner, Michelle, I realized that I was more enamored with their interactions than with his take on the issues (I eventually researched those before I stepped into the voting booth, I promise).
When it comes to their relationship, I’m still not sure what’s real and what’s projected by the media. But since reality is one’s own mental creation, I’m rocking with my observations.” Click here to continue reading…

Kwan, 32, tells PEOPLE that she is engaged to Clay Pell, 30, director for strategic planning on the National Security staff at the White House. The two first met in April 2011.

Paul Frank, designer of the ubiquitous monkey-printed tees we used to buy at Delia’s, has offended many after hosting a Native American culture-themed party complete with tomahawks, feathered headdresses and drinks like the “Rain Dance Refresher.”
Frank, whose eponymous brand is known by its monkey mascot Julius (yup, the monkey’s got a name), hosted the Native American-themed “Dream Catchin” party in West Hollywood on Sept. 6 to celebrate Fashion’s Night Out, Indian Country Today Media Network originally reported.
The invitation described the party as “a pow wow celebrating Fashion’s Night Out” and pretty much delivered on the theme: “Glow-in-the-dark war-painted employees in feather headbands and bow and arrows invited guests to be photographed on a mini-runway holding prop tomahawks,” describes The Hollywood Reporter.
Drinks like the “Rain Dance Refresher,” the “Dream Catcher” and the “Neon Teepee” were served, ICTMN reported.
Online Dating Fails: The Worst (and funniest) messages women have gotten…
These aren’t the sort of pick-up lines one would expect to be effective — or even acceptable to speak aloud — in the real world. However, in the world of online dating, messages such as the three above are pretty commonplace. Blogger Meghan Mess even included the reception of many “unintelligible messages” as one crucial phase in her Internet Dating Cycle chart, back in May. Basically, if you’re a woman who has attempted to date online, you’ve definitely gotten a handful of “WTF I must forward this immediately to 10 friends” messages like the following:
“What’s up sexo? Don’t be shy.”
“Wait … are you housebroken?”
“I’m not feeling well.”
In the interest of sharing the laughs with an audience larger than our internal editorial listserve, we decided to publish some of the most hilarious messages we’ve received (in all their misspelled/broken English/highly inappropriate glory) and ask you all to contribute your online dating fails too. Rocktoberfest promises a “jam band” featuring Gene Simmons and friends, as well as a stein holding contest and a lot of lederhosen. The festivities will close with a craft brew festival highlighting over 50 different craft beers to raise money for The GRAMMY Museum, “an exciting and interactive celebration of the power of music.”
This isn’t the first time Simmons’ has hosted a beer bash – Father’s Day won the lottery earlier this year. Who knows? Maybe in 2013 he’ll throw one for St. Patty’s via TheDailyMeal.

Chad Johnson charged with ‘Battery’ in the Evelyn Lozada domestic violence case…
Chad Johnson has officially been charged with misdemeanor battery after allegedly headbutting his wife Evelyn Lozada during a nuclear argument last month, this according to the State Attorney for Broward County, Florida.
If convicted, Chad faces up to a year in jail. As we reported, Chad was arrested for domestic violence in Florida on August 11th after a fight over a condom receipt allegedly turned violent. Evelyn told police Chad headbutted her.
At the time of the fight, Evelyn and Chad had barely been married a month. Evelyn has since filed for divorce, claiming their marriage had become “irretrievably broken.”
Chad is refusing to sign any divorce papers, insisting he’s still in love with her. Chad was also dropped from the Miami Dolphins following his arrest. He’s now a free agent via TMZ.
Chad Johnson files for divorce…
Chad Johnson has finally accepted the fact that his marriage to Evelyn Lozada is over … and has filed divorce docs in which he admits the union is “irretrievably broken”, TMZ has learned.
Johnson filed the papers yesterday in a Florida court … in response to the docs Evelyn filed back on August 14. In his papers, Chad admits the two have a prenup that he believes should be enforced — especially the part about who pays for the lawyers.
According to the docs, Johnson wants a judge to BLOCK Evelyn’s request that Chad foot the bill for her legal fees, citing a provision in the prenup in which the two sides agreed to pay their own way if they were to split up. The divorce has not been finalized yet but at this point, it’s only a matter of time and sources close to Evelyn tell us she’s “ecstatic” and ready to move on.
Evelyn and Chad were married back in July, but the honeymoon ended a month later, when Chad allegedly headbutted Evelyn during a heated argument over a condom receipt she found in his car via TMZ.

Spotted: Olivia Munn out and about during New York Fashion Week…
Olivia Munn certainly colored us green with envy when she stepped out in a figure-hugging dress on Wednesday. Munn pulled out the fashion big guns to attend Michael Kors’ Spring 2013 fashion show at New York’s Lincoln Center, showing off her best assets in the tight green dress and black strappy sandals.
And while Olivia Munn stunned at New York Fashion Week, her “The Newsroom” co-star stunned for very different reasons the same day. Alison Pill accidentally tweeted a topless self-portrait before realizing her mistake and deleting the photo from Twitter:
“Yep. That picture happened. Ugh. My tech issues have now reached new heights, apparently. How a deletion turned into a tweet… Apologies,” she tweeted via Huffpost.
Obamacare: A look at the numbers…
New numbers reveal how Obamacare is working to help Americans get and keep affordable health insurance. The Census Bureau has reported that—after years of increases—the number of uninsured Americans fell from 16.3 percent to 15.7 percent.
In fact, the percentage of people with private health insurance remained constant for the first time in 10 years. Experts believe this progress was driven in part by the provision in the Affordable Care Act that allows young adults to stay on their family’s health insurance plan—one of the first pieces of Obamacare to go into effect.
We’ve also learned that Obamacare is helping lower health care costs for families across the country. The Department of Health and Human Services reported that consumers saved more than $2 billion on their premiums with the help of two provisions in the health care law: more than $1 billion in rebates from insurance companies that overcharged them, and $1 billion because regulators cracked down on insurance companies who tried to increase rates without justification. Obama Talks Race, Calls Himself a ‘Mixed Kid From Hawaii’…
Lately it’s been a rare occurrence when President Obama talks race but at a campaign stop in Colorado Wednesday he mentioned it and even identified himself as mixed-raced.
“Education was a gateway for opportunity for me, let’s face it, as a mixed kid from Hawaii born to a single-mom, it’s not likely to become President of the United States,” Obama told supporters at a campaign stop Golden, CO.
The President was delivering a speech on how education can be a gateway of opportunity.
“A little black girl from the south side of Chicago, who’s mom is a secretary and dad is a blue collar worker, is not likely to become First Lady of the United States but it happens because she got a great education,” the President went on to say.
While the comments may seem ordinary they’re not. The last time the President addressed race was at the height of the Trayvon Martin media coverage in March and he didn’t actually use the words “race” or “black,” instead he went with “If I had a son, he’d look like Trayvon.”
More recently. Colorlines.com’s economic justice blogger Imara Jones pointed out President Obama didn’t mention race in his Democratic National Convention speech even though the he has a plan to end the Depression-level unemployment amongst black and Latinos.
The Kobe and Vanessa Bryant Family Foundation complete homeless center renovation…
On Wednesday Kobe and Vanessa Bryant arrived at My Friend’s Place, a drop-in center for homeless youth in Hollywood, which annually serves about 1,700 individuals between the ages of 12 and 25. They were there to announce the completion of the center’s renovation, which was funded by the Kobe and Vanessa Bryant Family Foundation.
“This isn’t a popular topic or a popular issue,” Bryant said. “It’s one where you have to get your hands dirty a little bit. It’s not something celebrities easily rally around but this is something that we wanted to change. This something we’re all going to have to fight, it’s going to be a long fight but I’m in it for the long haul.”
Bryant recalls seeing homeless people walking the streets outside the Forum at the beginning of his career and more recently at the Staples Center. He admits the epidemic became like white noise for him before he heard chilling statistics about homelessness in Los Angeles last year. According to a 2011 report from the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority, there are 51,340 homeless people in Los Angeles County on a given day.
“It puts things into perspective,” Bryant said. “At the end of the day there’s only so many interviews you can do and stories you can write. You have to do something that carries more weight and has more significance and purpose to it.
“My career is winding down and at the end of it, I want to look back and said I had a successful career because I won so many championships and scored so many points. There’s something else you have to do with that.”Click here to continue reading…
Ryan Gosling proposes to Eva Mendes…
Sources tell the magazine that the 31-year-old actor is just “itching” to tie the knot with his girlfriend of just over a year. Gosling is reportedly “head over heels” in love with the 38-year-old actress and would love to make an honest woman out of her. But unlike the rest of the entire world’s female population, Mendes apparently has no interest in getting married.
“It’s something Eva has balked at in the past, but Ryan has a charming way of helping her see a different kind of future. She’s getting on board with the idea of marriage,” revealed the insider. Click here to continue reading…

Rapper Eve is scheduled to release a new album soon. The ‘Lip Lock’ album. In an interview with BBC Radio she talks about the importance of mixing old school and new school hip-hop at festivals, her upcoming album, Lip Lock, and more:

It’ll be out towards the end of the year. But so far on the album, it’s Salaam Remi, Akon, of course Swizz Beatz — you don’t get out of Ruff Ryders. Obviously that’s my fam and I haven’t wrapped up the album yet so I’m sure you’ll hear some stuff from somebody.”
“I did another record called ‘Mama’s in the Kitchen’ with Swizz that is ridiculous,” Eve explained in an interview. “In the next couple of weeks, I’ma let this burn for a minute and then I’m going to drop that record…I’m working with Salaam Remi, who if you know music, Salaam is major, major, major — I went in with MSTRKRFT, I don’t know if people know who MSTRKRFT are, I went in with them. Oprah: “‘Fix My Life’ will help repair Evelyn Lozada’s image”…
This weekend, Oprah’s OWN network will premiere life coach Iyanla Vanzant’s new show ‘Fix My Life,’ and will feature Iyanla assisting her guests with weeding through some of the inner issues causing turmoil in their lives. The premiere episode, features ‘Basketball Wives’ star Evelyn Lozada, who filmed a portion of the show before her marriage to NFL star Chad Johnson turned sour.
Although Iyanla had been helping Evelyn become a better person and keep her marriage intact, the segment after Lozada’s wedding was filmed after the alleged domestic violence incident.
This week, to promote the show Oprah and Iyanla visited ‘Good Morning America‘ to discuss what people should expect from the highly emotional series. Winfrey revealed that people may ‘love to hate’ Evelyn but they will learn to like her after watching the upcoming episode.
“People love to hate Evelyn Lozada. I have friends who watch that tape and [say], ‘I don’t like her, I don’t like her.’ They come away feeling something different at the end of watching that tape. It’s really what happens. It’s amazing.”
Iyanla also discussed what to expect from the emotional session:
“Our show opener is with Evelyn Lozada, the estranged wife of Chad Johnson and the point that we’re making is, so very often we see reality television and we think it’s something out there, but Evelyn is every woman.”
“She’s made mistakes that every woman has made. She’s got a story that many women live. And so we want to bring that and the lessons she’s learning, the healing she needs, to the Iyanla Vanzant Fix My Life’ audience. Watch it with your notebook and your pen. Take notes. And don’t act like you don’t know what Evelyn’s going through.”
“It’s participatory television. Not only do the guests participate, but there’s an opportunity for the audience to participate…to take notes and say I did that, I’m there, I know that. That’s what makes it different. It’s a healing process, it’s a learning process, it’s a loving process.” Iyanla continued to say…
