Meet Oluchi Onweagba an international fashion model, wife and mother. Coming from Lagos, Nigeria, Onweagba never dreamed of becoming a model. Her destiny of becoming a model was realized as a result of her family pressuring her to enter an M-Net “Face of Africa” competition at 17. Upon winning, Elite Model Management did not hesitate to sign her on a three-year modeling contract. What a journey…
A lot of models who have gone on to become international supermodels were discovered by talent scouts walking down the street while minding their own business. Sometimes, it’s best to stumble upon a profession innocently than pursue it with aggression. This does not work in all cases or for all professions.
After moving to New York City, Onweagba graced the covers of Italian Vogue, i-D, ELLE, Untold, and Surface; she has also been featured in Nylon, Marie Claire, Allure, and other national editions of Vogue around the world. She became the face of campaigns for Gianfranco Ferré, Gap, Express, Banana Republic, and Ann Taylor, as well as working for Victoria’s Secret.
Cupid hit this KolorBlind queen when she met Italian fashion designer Luca Orlandi, a Milan native who started his designer brand Luca Luca in 1991. The brand originated as a men’s line and has evolved over the years showing a softer feminine look. This was particularly prominent during the 2009 New York Fashion Week.
They couple were married in 2005 and maintain a residence in both New York and Milan.
In April 2007, Onweagba gave birth to the couple’s first child, a son named Ugochukwu – meaning God’s Eagle. Onweagba is one of those models who revels in privacy. She is however a photographer’s muse when sighted. We’re wishing this KolorBlind queen much continued success in her personal and professional life.
Thanks for setting an example for other KolorBlind women who aspire of a career in the fashion industry. You’ve shown us that it can all be done alongside being a devoted wife and mother.
